My sister Andrea and I have been visiting their store on Ottawa St. in Hamilton for years. Whenever we’re in the area, even if we’re not in the market to buy furniture or home decor, we always pop in because the store is chock-full of inspiration and decor ideas!
Recently, their Oakville location has opened up a designated “SALVAGED” section.
This falls right in line with my passion for up-cycling, reusing and restyling, so when Jacky from The Millionaire’s Daughter contacted me and suggested collaborating for a Fall Giveaway, I was beyond thrilled!
They picked this gorgeous cabinet for me to restyle. As soon as it was delivered, I was itching to get started. I have to admit, I don’t usually work on such well maintained pieces. Other than some natural wear on the inside shelves and a door that needed a new hinge, this cabinet was in perfect condition. After bouncing back and forth on picking a ‘Fall’ color (a big thanks to you Facebook followers for chiming in!), I finally decided on Bluestone House’s ‘Barn Door’. This gorgeous paint is part of their new Industrial Country Line. I would describe ‘Barn Door’ as a beautiful calming country blue-grey. Perfect for this vintage cabinet!
To highlight the decorative details and vintage legs, I added a modest amount of Polyvine’s Metallic Paint in ‘Bronze’.
I was originally thinking of painting the entire recessed door panels metallic, but I’m happy with the smaller details being highlighted. I added a little more light to the pic below so hopefully you can see the effect. The metallic adds just the right amount of shimmer and interest. What’s the saying – Less is More! π
The Polyvine Metallic Bronze and Barn Door pair nicely and really compliment each other!
Add in the matching Hobby Lobby teardrop hardware and warm wood interior, and voila, a beautiful Autumn Inspired Cabinet for the upcoming fall season. This cabinet is now for sale and is going to look amazing in someone’s home!

Hello,
I stumbled across this page on Pinterest and am ordering the Barn Door paint for my project. Any chance you can recommend a paint that is similar to the Polyvine Bronze. It seems Amazon no longer carries it at the link you supplied (I realize I am catching an older post) Thanks for any input you may have for me!
Hi Megan! Modern Masters has nice metallic paints (including Bronze) or you can also buy a small size DecoArt Bronze Paint. If you’re not into ordering online, Home Depot and Lowes carries Rust-Oleum Metallic Accents in Bronze. Hope this helps. π
Another beauty, metallic highlights cuts the color on such a huge piece. Thanks for showing it.
Thank you! And for sure… I think the full panels in metallic would have been way too much.
Truly amazing sense of re-purposing furniture. You have quite a vision and sense of style. Love it!! If only I could get started on my dresser with the paint already on hand. Ufffff.
Thanks Jessie! And ya I hear you, sometimes starting is the hard part. But then often inspiration takes over and it’s easy sailing from there. π Good luck with your dresser. x
Gorgeous piece of furniture, love the transformation and styling Denise.
Thanks Mary! I had a lot of fun styling and it didn’t take me half a day! π
I love your work and again another beautiful piece. I love that blue color and the metallic color you used with it. Did you wax the cabinet after of just leave it?
Thank Deborah, and yes, the entire cabinet has been waxed and protected with Annie Sloans’ Clear Wax.
Denise, I love the metallic with the blue. Gorgeous! π
Thanks Christina, I think the metallic really gave it that little extra something too. π
Hi Denise:
I love the paint colour you used on the cabinet. I am about to paint our cottage and its furniture – in a beachy theme – and today I had not picked the paint colour for the furniture. After reading your post regarding the above cabinet – my problem has been solved – “Bluestone House’s Barn Door” appears to be the exact colour I have been looking for to paint my furniture.
BTW – I would like to submit my name for consideration in the “Milionaire Daughters” contest. I live just outside Newmarket and it would be a short drive to their Aurora store.
Bluestone House ‘Barn Door’ would be amazing for cottage furniture. What a great projet! To submit your entry for The Millionaire’s Daughter Giveaway, just click the link above and head on over to my Facebook Page. If you don’t have a FB account but know someone who does, they can submit an entry for you! π
Thanks Lady ! Amazing job as always ! You Rock ! When are you coming to see me ? : )
Thanks again !!!
Thanks Pamela! And I’d love to drop by! I’m itching to try more of your Industrial Country paint colors! π
The cabinet is gorgeous and love the color.
Sorry, I don’t do Facebook
Thanks, it was my first time using ‘Barn Door’ and I love the color too! And I appreciate you leaving the comment here Colleen! π
Hi Denise. You’ve done it again…a piece of furniture I just looove!!!! I never would have thought to put metallic highlights as an accent. What a wonderful added touch to such a beautiful deep color of blue/grey. And the teardrop handles are perfect. I can’t wait to enter the Millionaire’s Daughter contest. You are always so giving to us SI followers. Many thanks:)
Thank you! This piece was pretty ‘spiffy’ to begin with but I am really pleased with the updated look. Good luck with the giveaway Monique! x
