Although I love summer, it excites me to feel the fall chill in the air. September rolls around – and for me, it signifies apple picking, homemade pies, jewel-tone foliage and Tim Horton’s Pumpkin Spice Lattes. Another thing I like to do is warm up my decor. Today I have 7 Simple Bedroom Decorating Ideas to cozy up ANY bedroom in your home. And because I’m a bonafide thriftista, they can all be done on the cheap!
My bedroom is one of the few places in my home that doesn’t have a constant flow of painted furniture coming and going. I consider it decorated but never finished. It’s always a work in progress. I can’t believe that it looked like this a few years back…
It’s amazing what some white paint over wallpaper and a DIY faux brick wall can do! I’m still on the hunt for the perfect rug and I’m also looking for ideas for an unconventional headboard. I was thinking maybe stenciling the wall, painting it a moody soft black or maybe a 70’s looking rattan headboard to tie in with the neutrals and boho vibe?? If you have any headboard ideas I’d LOVE to hear them in the comments below!

7 Simple Bedroom Decorating Ideas::
1:: Seasonal Cushions and Textured Throws
I picked up a few fall cushions and tufted throws from Homesense. I love the way soft fabrics with all different textures always add a cozy feel. And I’m loving the gold leaves!
2:: Rearrange Furniture
You may remember this shapely curb-shopped chair. Its original finish was orangey-red and I used this whitewash technique to update it. I found the perfect corner for it too. I like using what I have and switching furniture from room to room. Experimenting with placement can make a huge impact and give a fresh feel for the fall season.
3:: Thrift Art
I have a bit of a thrift art obsession. I love finding original paintings and drawings, reframing them and using them for staging or decor. Changing out light airy art – like say summer florals for portraits or landscapes can really make an impact. My brother-in-law picked up this little aboriginal girl original oil on fabric for me. He found it at a flea market for a dollar. I purchased this second portrait watercolor at a ReStore for four dollars! Aren’t they sweet?!
I should have Windexed my mirror before taking this pic. 😉
These frames and mats are from the Dollar Store.
I use to have a green thumb. I spent hours in the garden and my house plants looked SO good they looked fake… hehe. Then my Dad got ill – I was focusing on growing a business – and somehow garden time totally disappeared. Well, I’m slowly bringing plants back into the home again. I also hope to work on my garden next spring. I’d like to get my green thumb back again.
I bought a pair of linen drapes and layered them with the white sheers I had hanging up over the summer. It really adds some weight and I love the way it frames the window.
6:: Bring the Outdoors In
These birch logs I salvaged from my Christmas Urns back in 2015 make a perfect addition They’ve come in handy for staging my furniture and now for this Fall makeover. I’ve used outdoor elements like pinecones, plumes and pussy willows to add texture and bring the outdoors in.
7:: Dollar Store Decor
My girlfriend Steph rarely sets foot in a Dollar Store but I absolutely LOVE them. If you’re crafty, dollar stores can be the springboard for ANY type of artistic project. Check out these pumpkins. They started out orange but with a little chalky paint and moonshine metallics, they add a cute addition to the nightstand.
I’m happy with the new warmer look. There’s nothing like reading a good book with a hot cup of tea or writing a blog post in a space that feels cozy and relaxing for autumn.
