THESE CURB-SHOPPED SIDE TABLES GET A 2 HOUR MAKEOVER USING THE NEW ‘CACTUS’ SILK ALL-IN-ONE MINERAL PAINT
Hi, creative family! It’s Furniture Fixer Upper day – the first one of 2022! I’m joining my furniture painting besties and linking to their makeovers… so be sure to check them out below. But first, today I’m sharing these curb-shopped painted tables…Cactus Painted Side Tables! If you think you need a ton of time to transform a piece, here’s the step-by-step of this two-hour makeover! Amazing how quickly one paint color can update your furniture!
Here are the curb-shopped tables I started with. Nick picked them up for me and they’ve been sitting in my garage for over a year. I kept putting this makeover off because had mixed feelings about the shape of the legs.
This is one of the quickest makeovers I’ve done but don’t they look amazing? Color is everything!

2 HOUR CACTUS SIDE TABLES
I spent the better part of last week cleaning, organizing, and painting my paint room so this week. I started this piece on Tuesday afternoon and finished it Wednesday morning. Minus dry time, this entire project took 2 hours. Pretty fancy for an entirely new look, don’t you think? This quick DIY is thanks to the SILK Mineral Paint. There’s a built-in primer and topcoat included so this saved me a few steps. AND… I got to try one of their new colors! Dixie Belle has added 10 NEW desert colors to the SILK line and they are fabulous.
Here’s how this simple side table set all came together…
PREP
Nick gave these tables a cleaning and sanding before bringing them to me but since they’ve been sitting in my garage for over a year I started from scratch. I cleaned them up with this White Lightning and then gave them another scuff sanding with my orbital sander and this 120 grit sandpaper.
PAINT
After wiping off the dust with a tack cloth, I painted the first coat of this NEW Cactus Silk Paint. It’s not recommended to use water with this paint but I do like giving my brush a very light mist before dipping it into the paint. I find it glides a little easier without diluting the paint or primer properties in this paint.
Also a BIG thank you to ALL OF YOU who chimed in on Facebook. I posted these tables asking for color suggestions and greens and NEW Silk Paint Colors came up plenty of times. 😊
It took two coats to cover these black tables. Here’s the coverage after the first coat.
SAND BETWEEN COATS
Once it dried, I sanded between the first and second coat with 220 grit sandpaper. This paint is self-leveling so sanding isn’t really needed, but I’m in the habit of knocking down paints or primers between coats.
GOLD DETAIL
As I final detail I used Gold Wax and an artist’s brush to add some gold to the existing details.
I’m often asked how much paint I’ve used on my projects and I finally remembered to take a picture! For this table set, approximately one-third of a 16oz jar was used. This all-in-one paint sells for $37 so this table set cost me $12 to restyle and two hours of my time.
THE FINAL LOOK
I love the little gold detail the Gemstone Mousse added.

Such an informative blog! All the information provided by you is really very helpful. I agreed that tack cloth is the best cleaning tool than any other, it is really helpful for removing tiny dust particles over any surfaces. A good tack cloth makes your work easier. Hi K! I used Dixie Belle’s SILK All-In-One Mineral Paint which has a built-in primer and built-in topcoat – so two steps are eliminated right off the bat. It took my two hours to paint and detail the two tables minus the dry time. 🙂

I absolutely love this new green color! I cannot wait to get all the new Silk colors in and play with them! This color looks amazing on these little tables and really stepped up their game! And, in the US, this paint is only $24.95… So even less to transform both tables in American currency! XOXO

It’s a very rich color. I’m into green so of coarse I like these tables. Also, I know gold is back in, but; it’s not my favorite. It works with this color though and I don’t mind the accent at all. Sometimes quick makeovers are the best ones.
I’m into green as well and I agree, it’s a rich green and so on trend with the boho vibe and desert colors. Dixie Belle has 9 other new “desert” colors they’ve just come out with so can’t wait to try a few more! 🙂

I wouldn’t have thought to use green on these tables but it’s perfect! And I lke the shape of the legs. If they were straight and blocky these tables would lack in design.
