HOW TO TURN A CURB-SHOPPED MIRROR INTO A BEAUTIFUL (ANTHROPOLOGIE-INSPIRED) DIY ANTIQUE GOLD MIRROR FOR STYLING YOUR PAINTED FURNITURE OR HOME | YOUTUBE VIDEO
Hi, sweet creative SI family! It’s one of my favorite days of the month – Trash To Treasure Tuesday. If you’re new here, the second Tuesday of every month is where my blogging besties and I share our T2T makeover tutorials. I have included links to their T2T makeovers below. But first, today I’m sharing how to turn ANY mirror into a DIY Anthropologie-Inspired Antiqued Gold Mirror using wood appliques, paint, and gilding wax. If you have an hour to spare, this could be the project for you!
Here’s the mirror I started with. It’s been sitting in my inventory for so long I don’t remember where I found this one but it was a curb-shopped piece. It’s not a bad-looking mirror but we can make it better!
The Anthropologie Gleaming Primrose Mirrors were my inspiration. This is going to be perfect for styling my painted furniture.!
What do you think? I’m thrilled with the way this turned out!

No More Nails Glue
Woodubend Moldings
Coffee Bean Chalk Mineral Paint
Gold Gilding Wax
ANTHROPOLOGIE ANTIQUED MIRROR
Here’s how it all came together. This is a beginner’s project that anyone can do!
PREP | CLEAN
I removed the back of this mirror by removing the screws. I kept the backing to adhere later.
REMOVE | CLEAN MIRROR
Once I had the back removed, it was easy to lift the mirror out of the frame. Then I gave it a really good cleaning with Windex and a shop towel. These shop towels are a must in my inventory and I use them for EVERYTHING. They are tough, durable, and perfect for cleaning, staining, whitewashing, waxing and so many other tasks as they are lint-free!
TIP – Safety first! When working with glass or mirrors, be VERY careful as the edges can be sharp!
WOOD APPLIQUÉS DESIGN
Here’s the fun part for me. I used these WoodUbend appliqués as I love how easy they are to adhere and bend with a little heat but any wood appliqués would work nicely for this project. I decided on a design for the fame using wood moldings and trim on the sides and top. Then I painted the front and back of the Woodubend molds in this Coffee Bean Chalk Mineral Paint. I painted the back as well so the reflection in the mirror would show up as the same color rather than the raw wood.
Below is a list of the WoodUbend Molds I used to get this look but you can use any type of wood appliques you like the looks of!
Rope Trim
Set of Scrolls ( for top corners)
Set of Scrolls (for bottom corners)
Pediment Center Piece
GLUE MOLDS TO MIRROR
I started by gluing the Woodubend on with a hot glue gun… this DID NOT WORK as you’ll see in the Youtube video I posted below. So I switched over to this No More Nails construction adhesive. This No More Nails Glue is heavy-duty! This gold gilded frame is never coming off now!
GOLD GILDING WAX
To achieve the antiqued gold finish, I used this Gold Gilding Wax. It’s super easy to apply. I put a little on my finger and rubbed it onto the frame. You can add as much or as little as you like depending on how gold you would like the finish. It’s water-based so it dries quickly and is easy to clean up.
This Anthropologie-inspired antiqued mirror project couldn’t have been any easier. It took about an hour in total minus dry times.
Here’s the finished look!
I didn’t attach anything to hang it with onto the back because I plan on using it as shown below.
But if you wanted to include hanging hooks, so long as you reinforce the mirror onto a stable backing, you could add hooks and hang it as well.
It really reminds me of the Anthro Mirrors that sell for between $500-$1500 depending on size.
I got a similar look ( and this mirror is a fair size!) for under $75!

[Insert ‘mind blown’ emoji] Just fantastic, and beautiful – and giving me all sorts of ideas for “alternative” ways to use the WoodUBend products. Thanks for the inspiration, Denise! And all your ever-fresh ideas.
Denise says
Thanks!🤗 Isn’t this Woodubend amazing!?!😃 I want to try this on an oval or round mirror next!
Michele says
This is absolutely stunning! I would definitely need to hang the one that I’m considering. Could you possibly explain in further detail how to safely do that? Thank you!!
Denise says
Thanks Michele! I’m not sure because I’m not going to hang mine. You might want to Google or Youtube that. But I’m ‘guessing’ you’d either need to insert it in a frame and then glue the Woodubend onto the frame and add hooks or mount the mirror onto a sturdy back and include some hooks.
Deanna says
Absolutely love how you used woodubend and rope to create a new frame for this mirror!

Taking the heavy black trim off this mirror and adding the wood you bend just makes it clean and gorgeous Denise! I’m usually not a fan of gold gilding, however this is just cool!
Denise says
The frame is everything, right?! I can’t believe what a difference it makes too!
Nicki says
I need to try this! You make it look so simple yet this mirror transformation is unbelievably WOW! Thanks for sharing Denise!
Denise says
If you give it a try I’d LOVE to hear how it all turns out for you Nicki! But beware, ‘playing’ around with the Woodubend is additive… I love them!

Fran Blunt says
This is gorgeous! I love it! Did you put a protective backing on the mirror?
Denise says
Not yet. I was on a time crunch to get this published for the T2T tour. I’ll be gluing the original back I took off this mirror BUT if I were to include hooks to hang, it would definitely need to be reinforced with something more heavy-duty.
Sara says
Wowsers! That’s quite the transformation; it’s spectacular!
Denise says
Yay, I like Wows and Wowsers…lol, thanks Sara! XOXO
Sonya says
