12 DIY CHRISTMAS PROJECT COUNTDOWN | HOLIDAY GIFT IDEAS
Hi creative SI family! With Christmas less than a month away, it’s the perfect time to gather DIY Christmas Gift Ideas. And it sure feels like the holiday season here! Last night we had our first snowfall. I’ve curated this fun DIY Christmas Project Countdown for inspiration! These are some of YOUR favorite holiday makeovers on the #siblog…
- 10-Minute Christmas Urn
- Red & Gold Christmas Trunk Makeover
- Easy Paint Pour Ornaments
- Holiday Tray Makeover
- … and more
Any of these would make a beautiful gift for a loved one — or yourself!
Let’s get started with the countdown. I’ve included the link to the original step-by-step tutorial if you’d like to see the ugly befores’ and ALL the nitty-gritty details.

12. PAINT POUR CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS
These Paint Pour Ornaments were a little messy but SO much fun! The color marbled with hints of gold is absolutely gorgeous… especially when the light hits it just right. These are a perfect gift-giving idea with a personal touch. If you’d like to see this paint-pour technique in action, I have a full Youtube Tutorial here.
11. DIY CHRISTMAS TRAY
Here’s a super simple tray update complete with salvaged chair finial feet! I still use this tray in my home decor. It’s perfect for holiday displays or to hold milk and cookies for Santa… or a huge mug of hot coffee and shortbread for Denise. 😉
10. PINK CHAMPAGNE CHRISTMAS DRESSER
Pink Champagne to celebrate the holiday season transformed this heavy dark tallboy into a feminine beauty! This girl also landed on the back cover of this Country Sampler Magazine which I was absolutely thrilled about! I gifted this dresser to my sister Christmas of 2018. It went to the perfect home because every time she came over she couldn’t take her eyes off of it.
9. DIY ICE SKATE WREATH
Here’s a cheap and easy holiday wreath makeover. The total cost was under $12 and my inspiration was a pair of thrifted ice skates. This is a super simple and quick project — and it turned out AHHH-DORABLE!
8. DIY RESIN CHRISTMAS BOX
Inexpensive boxes are abundant at thrift stores and here’s a perfect way to make it unique for the holidays. I took this ugly $2.99 Goodwill box and created a multi-purpose holiday box with DIY Resin Appliques. Making your own molds is fun and cost-effective. I have a full Youtube tutorial here.
7. BUFFALO PLAID CHRISTMAS WASHSTAND
This salvaged washstand was the perfect piece to try a Buffalo Plaid Paint Technique. As I always say, the best part about curb-shopped furniture is you can play around with new techniques. It’s the freedom to muck it up guilt-free! This piece has since had a few more Christmas makeovers and will be getting another which I’ll share more details on later in this roundup.
6. 10 MINUTE DIY CHRISTMAS URNS
Here’s a 2015 oldie but a goodie. The 10 Minute DIY Christmas Urn using tidbits I had on hand. It’s a perfect gift idea for your own porch or outdoor holiday decorating. And every year around this time, I’m always surprised at how many views this post still gets!
5. PINK AND GOLD CHRISTMAS NIGHTSTANDS
These pink and gold nightstands were originally this old dated desk! This is a fabulous idea for a desk that isn’t being used. Desks are not difficult to disassemble and nightstands are always needed, right? Custom painting them to fit someone’s decor is the ultimate personal gift. You can check out the full Youtube tutorial here.
4. SALVAGED WOOD SLED
I found this wood sled curbside last year and I’m sharing how I transformed it into the sweetest wood sled decor for this winter season. I hope it inspires you to get creative with what you have on hand!
3. BLEACHED PINECONES W/O BLEACH
Here’s how to get this Bleached Pinecone ‘look’ without using any bleach! It’s such a simple makeover that brings an element of nature to any holiday decor. I used these as a display this past Thanksgiving but I’ve recently given these pinecones to my sister so she can make a Christmas wreath for one of her neighbors!
2. PAINTED CHRISTMAS TRUNK
This ugly salvaged trunk got a Christmas makeover using red and gold. The embossed surface made it so easy to add the gold shimmer and it worked like magic using a sanding sponge. You can see a super short Pinterest Video of it in action here.
1. STENCILED CHRISTMAS WASHSTAND
And to end this holiday countdown, we are back to the salvaged washstand! This was the 2020 Stenciled Christmas look. I CAN’T WAIT to bring you the 2023 Christmas makeover next week as it’s become a Salvaged Inspirations Christmas Tradition! I’m excited about her NEW seasonal look! I haven’t started working on it yet so if you have any suggestions on what you’d like to see me do with this piece, I’d love to hear in the comments below!

Hi Denise. I LOVE this Christmas round-up. Your sister was very lucky to be gifted the beautiful pink tallboy. I’m sure it was that much more special having it featured in a magazine:). I can’t wait to see the 2021 version of your washstand. I’m absolutely IN LOVE with all your work.
