Hello my friends! I’m excited to share this special rescue story with you – and this time; no cabinets, dressers or tables involved.
Meet Gidget. She’s the newest member of our family and Salvaged Inspirations Team and she’s the sweetest thing ever.
Gidget is part Pug and part Yorkshire Terrier and approximately 10-12 months old.
This cutie was abandoned and then picked up as a stray somewhere near Sistersville, West Virginia. Thankfully, an Animal Rescue Team in Ohio stepped in to save her from a high-kill shelter.
When the Ohio organization no longer had space for her, they reached out to the volunteers at Take Me Home; a long distance rescue organization here in Ontario. Gidget took the long trip north, and from there she found a beautiful foster home with Lu in Mississauga, and finally her forever home here with me.
Until now, she’s been dealt a hard hand. But through all the helping hands she’s encountered, everyone’s been surprised and impressed at how charming, sweet and easy going she’s been. All the volunteers who have come in contact with this beautiful little soul have nothing but praise for her.
I feel extremely blessed and lucky to have been chosen over the other sixty-eight (68) applicants who had applied for Gidget! She’s truly captured and warmed my heart!
It’s definitely ‘easier’ to go buy a puppy from a breeder. I found it somewhat overwhelming and heartbreaking searching through rescue sites because there are some seriously sad stories and you just want to save them all.
But having said this, it feels SO GOOD adopting a rescue and I would encourage anyone looking for a fur friend to do so! Once I saw her, it just felt right …like Gidget and I were meant to be.
… and this rescue; NO re-styling needed – she’s PERFECT as is! π
I tried to get a really good pic of Gidget and I but she was camera shy.
From the bottom of my heart, a BIG THANK YOU to all my friends/followers on Facebook who encouraged me to look into adopting a rescue dog. And thank you to all the volunteers who helped Gidget along the way.
Have an amazing day and Happy Holidays to you and yours!
Denise x
Denise, she is an absolute doll. You two were meant to be together. Rescues are the best – I beg everyone to adopt and not shop. There are so many beautiful, innocent, precious lives lost everyday due to not enough homes and people not spaying and neutering. Sure, it’s wonderful to have puppies if you know they will all have a wonderful, loving, forever home but for most, that is never the case. I will always be an animal advocate. I, like you Denise, wish I could save them all. We must continue to save as many as possible and work toward no more euthanasia and to have many more no-kill shelters. God bless you and I love your work. Just discovered your blog and so happy I did.
Thanks for taking the time to leave this message. I can hear how passionate you are and I couldn’t agree more. I’m so happy with Gidget (crazy in love with her actually!) and pleased I made the choice to rescue. Now that she’s getting over some separation anxiety and feeling more comfortable here, her personality is really coming out. She’s such a pleasure. And I don’t know if it’s me projecting or imagining this, but I really get the feeling she’s grateful for her new home. Thanks for the kind words and I’m so happy you discovered the SI Blog too Debbie. <3
Love the story! We have 2 rescues and I can honestly say that God above brought them into our lives. Such love can’t be described. So glad you got to bring her home! Merry Christmas!
I love that all of you are sharing YOUR rescue stories! It warms my heart to know that so many homeless animals are finding new beginnings and lots’ of love. π Happy Holidays to you Peggie! x
The BEST rescue yet and a keeper too!! Congrats to you all!!
She’s my favorite rescue for sure! π Thank you Paula. And Happy Holidays to you!
She’s adorable! Merry Christmas Gidget!
Thank you Merralyn! A a BIG Merry Christmas to you and yours! x
Oh my God, is she sweet!!! And bless your soul for adopting a rescue! There are so many sad stories as you said, more and more each day as people choose not to spay or neuter their animals. If only we could rescue them all! Thank you and Merry Christmas & Happy New year to you and yours!
She’s even sweeter on the inside than she is on the outside Tess! I’m amazed at how well she understands, listens, and most importantly trusts and loves after all she’s been through. I’m so happy I rescued.. but YES, if only we could rescue them all! Happy Holidays to you and yours Tess!!! x
You are truly blessed. They chose us. We don’t chose them. She knew you were the right one. Bless you both. Merry Christmas.
Thank you Lou… and I do think it was meant to be. Once I read Gidget’s bio on petfinder.com, I submitted my application. When I didn’t hear back for almost a week, I kept inquiring over and over. Finally, they informed me that a meet and greet had been set up with another applicant. That meeting didn’t go as smoothly as expected. Lucky me, I was the one they called next. When I saw her, I just knew she was the one! Merry Christmas Lou! π
Denise, I am thrilled for both you and Gidget! :)) My cat is a rescue so when I am able to get a dog, it too will be a rescue. So many great fur/feathered/scaled and more out there awaiting a forever home. Congratulations and my thanks to all who got busy and saved one more!
Love your comment Christina! I guess people often think it’s just cats and dogs up for adoption but that’s not the case! Happy Holidays to you. x
Denise. THANK YOU. Thank you on behalf of all of us who work with rescues and encourage people to consider rescue and especially on behalf of all the animals who need forever homes.
Gidget is gorgeous and she will let you know over and over, that this is one of your top 10 best LIFE decisions.
HAPPY holidays π
Thank YOU Chez! I really appreciated you chiming in on my Facebook post on whether to rescue or purchase from a breeder. If it wasn’t for all the encouragement I received, I’m not sure I would have kept looking. As I mentioned, some of the stories broke my heart. On a positive note, my hat is off to all of you who work with rescues! Such AMAZING work you do! Thanks again! π <3
Thank you for adopting a rescue. As you said, it is easier to buy, but all Gods ‘children’ deserve to be loved and have a home. You will both benefit!
I feel like I already have! Thanks Micki and beautifully said. π
Congratulations and thank you for sharing Gidgets story! She’s absolutely beautiful. Very happy for you and your family; I hope you will include her from time to time in future posts. Merry Christmas, blessings and good vibes to you and yours.
Thank you Julianne. Gidget seems a little camera shy but I’m sure once she settles in she’ll be photo bombing all my pics…lol. Also, I just want to thank you for sharing your beautiful Lu on my FB post. She is gorgeous.. and I LOVED the flower… so sweet! π Happy Holidays to you and yours also. x
