HERE’S A CUTE VINTAGE CLOCK MAKEOVER USING FRENCH LINEN AND A SNEAK PEEK AT DIXIE BELLE’S NEW METALLIC MOUSSE…

Hi sweet SI family! For those of you who celebrated Labor Day, I hope you had a fun and relaxing weekend and welcome back!

Today is one of my favorite days of the month. On the second Tuesday of every month, I have the honor of joining my creative Trash To Treasure Crew!!  I’ll be sharing links to their before and after tutorials at the bottom of today’s post.

But first, check out this cute vintage clock MMM picked up.  It has an adorable shape and ton of character, but it was looking a little sad and dark.

Here’s the new look…

What do you think?  I really like it.  But I’m kind of sorry I didn’t go for the more ‘funky’ look I was originally playing with. I was going to add black numbers randomly placed. Instead, I took the safer and more comfortable creative route. More on this below. 🙂

PAINTED VINTAGE CLOCK 

To give this clock a brand new look, I used paint, a transfer, and Dixie Belle’s BRAND NEW (not even available for sale yet!) Metallic Mousse.

I started by giving this clock a good cleaning with this cleaner. Then I rinsed off all the residue with a sponge.

Once the clock was 100% clean and dry, I painted two coats of French Linen. I’m totally in love with this greige neutral color. You can see the very first makeover I restyled in French Linen here!

It works amazing even on smaller-mini spindles like the ones on this clock.

After the second coat of paint was dry, I added some depth by dry brushing this Coffee Bean. This grungy look kept the clock more authentic to its actual age.

I love trying new products so this is super exciting for me!  Dixie Belle sent me a few sample containers to try their COMING SOON Metallic Mousse!

I added some Copper highlights.  It’s SUPER easy to work with. The consistency is just like a mousse. This product can also be used under OR over a top coat because it’s water-based!  It’s EASY to apply with your finger or brush. And much more pigmented compared to a gilding wax.  It’s very concentrated so a little goes a long way.

This Metallic Mousse will be on the market and available for purchase in the next few months!

To complement the copper metallic mousse, I used this Gilded Home & Nature Transfer. It has a ton of designs for numerous projects. 🙂

If you’re new to transfers, they are easy to apply. It’s exactly like a peel and stick. Once the backing of the transfer is removed and placed on your project, you rub the transfer on with a wood applicator. I explain the full Rub-On Technique here.

To topcoat, I used this White Wax. It softened the look of the dry brushing and the Metallic Mousse and adds another layer of aging.

In the pic below, you can see the letter/number transfer I was originally going to use. I wasn’t sure how it was going to look, so I switched creative direction.

The reason why I mention this is that creativity is ALWAYS switching directions!

Sometimes, it’s more like a winding road than a straight highway. For some projects, you’ll choose to take the scenic route letting whatever is around the corner surprise you. In other projects, you’ll take the straight and fast route feeling comfortable in knowing what’s ahead.  Either or, it’s all part of the creative journey. Give yourself kudos for whatever road you’re on!

Even after all these years, I still need this friendly reminder every now and then. 🙂

Here’s the finished vintage clock.  It still has a vintage vibe but so much lighter with a touch of glam.
