HERE’S A CUTE VINTAGE CLOCK MAKEOVER USING FRENCH LINEN AND A SNEAK PEEK AT DIXIE BELLE’S NEW METALLIC MOUSSE…
Hi sweet SI family! For those of you who celebrated Labor Day, I hope you had a fun and relaxing weekend and welcome back!
Today is one of my favorite days of the month. On the second Tuesday of every month, I have the honor of joining my creative Trash To Treasure Crew!! I’ll be sharing links to their before and after tutorials at the bottom of today’s post.
But first, check out this cute vintage clock MMM picked up. It has an adorable shape and ton of character, but it was looking a little sad and dark.
Here’s the new look…
What do you think? I really like it. But I’m kind of sorry I didn’t go for the more ‘funky’ look I was originally playing with. I was going to add black numbers randomly placed. Instead, I took the safer and more comfortable creative route. More on this below. π

PAINTED VINTAGE CLOCK
To give this clock a brand new look, I used paint, a transfer, and Dixie Belle’s BRAND NEW (not even available for sale yet!) Metallic Mousse.
I started by giving this clock a good cleaning with this cleaner. Then I rinsed off all the residue with a sponge.
Once the clock was 100% clean and dry, I painted two coats of French Linen. I’m totally in love with this greige neutral color. You can see the very first makeover I restyled in French Linen here!
Also, if you missed my #slapitON technique for painting spindles, you can watch it below or check it out on my youtube channel here.
It works amazing even on smaller-mini spindles like the ones on this clock.
After the second coat of paint was dry, I added some depth by dry brushing this Coffee Bean. This grungy look kept the clock more authentic to its actual age.
I love trying new products so this is super exciting for me! Dixie Belle sent me a few sample containers to try their COMING SOON Metallic Mousse!
I added some Copper highlights. It’s SUPER easy to work with. The consistency is just like a mousse. This product can also be used under OR over a top coat because it’s water-based! It’s EASY to apply with your finger or brush. And much more pigmented compared to a gilding wax. It’s very concentrated so a little goes a long way.
This Metallic Mousse will be on the market and available for purchase in the next few months!
To complement the copper metallic mousse, I used this Gilded Home & Nature Transfer. It has a ton of designs for numerous projects. π
If you’re new to transfers, they are easy to apply. It’s exactly like a peel and stick. Once the backing of the transfer is removed and placed on your project, you rub the transfer on with a wood applicator. I explain the full Rub-On Technique here.
To topcoat, I used this White Wax. It softened the look of the dry brushing and the Metallic Mousse and adds another layer of aging.
In the pic below, you can see the letter/number transfer I was originally going to use. I wasn’t sure how it was going to look, so I switched creative direction.
The reason why I mention this is that creativity is ALWAYS switching directions!
Sometimes, it’s more like a winding road than a straight highway. For some projects, you’ll choose to take the scenic route letting whatever is around the corner surprise you. In other projects, you’ll take the straight and fast route feeling comfortable in knowing what’s ahead. Either or, it’s all part of the creative journey. Give yourself kudos for whatever road you’re on!
Even after all these years, I still need this friendly reminder every now and then. π
Here’s the finished vintage clock. It still has a vintage vibe but so much lighter with a touch of glam.
And now for some TRASH TO TREASURE FUN!

Its looks beautiful… something about this vintage stuff keep me hocked…
Itβs absolutely beautiful, Denise!
Thanks my friend! XOXO
I like the clock. Although I donβt personally care for gold so much, even though it is coming back into vogue, what youβve done is great. Youβll probably not like this partOf my comment, but the clock face is crooked. Itβs slanting to the left so twelve and six are not straight up and down.
But despite my negativeβs, youβve done a cute job with it.
I didn’t even notice Evelyn…lol. Maybe if it worked I would have. π
This indeed looks incredible, something I always in search off, thanks for sharing π
I love the finish and the transfer you chose, Denise – very chic and luxurious! That new metallic mousse looks like a great product!
Thanks, Jen, and ya, this new metallic mousse is phenomenal!
it’s beautiful, I love the painting.
Thanks, Joseph! π
Very pretty!! Love the new look.
Thanks my friend! XOXO π
I have to agree with the previous commenters. You picked the perfect finish for this vintage clock Denise. As always, thanks for sharing! ~ Nicki

Wow! I absolutely love this. I shall keep my eyes peeled for a similar one to makeover myself now I’ve seen how gorgeous you’ve made this look π
Thanks, Gina! And I’ve seen these kinds of replica clocks at thrift stores all the time. It’s a fun little project. π
Wow, you put a lot of work into that clock and it shows! Well done. Are the acorns on top and the feet of the clock wood? Is it battery operated? Thanks
Thanks Mary! XOXO The feet and acorns aren’t wood and yes it is battery operated. π
Denise: So glad you didn’t go the funky route. This little beauty would have been completely lost. Instead, you brought out its inherent loveliness. Just adore it.
That’s exactly what my sister said when she saw it too! Thanks, Elizabeth! π
Love what you did, Denise! This is a real treasure. The color, layers, metallic touches, and gold transfer really brings out the details and adds a nice chic touch! Thanks for sharing the details of how you painted and transformed this clock. Directions and explanations are always appreciated!

Hi Denise. I just love how this clock turned out. The colors, metallic accents, and transfer you added are absolutely perfect! I think you chose the right creative road;). Beautifully done.
Thanks, Monique, appreciate it! And funny, that’s exactly what my sister said too. π
I LIKE what you did at the end. Personally I get a little tired of lettering, numbers so it’s nice to see this more freeform style.. Good job!
Thanks so much Cate!
Lovely..It looks so vintage..like Marie Antoinette would have had…π
