Although I don’t get ‘out-there’ as often as I’d like, it’s always a treat to visit with other furniture painters. For me, dropping by a painter’s store, open-house, vendor booth, or home business is always fun and inspiring!
Not only because I enjoy hanging out with creatives {and then I get to share lovely painted pics with you guys!}, but also because I always learn something new. And it’s amazing to see how diverse and versatile furniture painting businesses really can be!
Today I’m featuring some sister love!
Carole, the talent behind Toronto Shabby Chic and her artistic sister Sally from The Sassy Stripper. Both of these brilliant ladies are holding down full-time jobs; yet are still finding the time to build a successful furniture painting venture!
In between working full-time hours, they put their heart and soul into restyling unattractive pieces into shabby chic perfection.
They sell their custom creations to select boutiques in the Toronto area and offer painting services to clients …. AND they still put aside time for a super fun open-house!!! WOW!
The day of the open-house sale was gray and chilly. It was wonderful hanging out with Carole and Sally; seeing all their gorgeous furniture and beautifully painted frames and mirrors. Unfortunately, our time was cut short by dark skies opening up to torrential rains.
I’m especially drawn to these french transfers… gorgeous. This is a must try for me!
Carole and Sally are a huge inspiration. They prove that when you LOVE what you do – NO excuses – you find the time and energy to build your business!
If you’re thinking of starting a full or part-time furniture painting venture, I hope seeing these featured businesses motivate you! Feel free to drop by Toronto Shabby Chic and The Sassy Stripper to say ‘hello’… they’d love to hear from you!
And don’t forget to leave a ‘hello’ for me too… comment below! I always love hearing from you!
Enjoy your day and have fun with your next project!
Denise x

~ Cristine
Thanks for dropping by Christine… look forward to you visiting again! π
Thank you for those inspiring photos, like you I just love the style. Do you know how to find and apply the stencils on furniture. I live in San Antonio TX and wish to bring a little different French Flair to my customers. Thank You
Monique, you can find gorgeous french stencils on Ebay, Etsy, Amazon, Maison de Stencils, Royal Design Studio, Michael’s, Cutting Edge Stencils…and there are many more! Sally and Carole get their stencils from Joanne at Muddaritaville Studio. π
If I might chime in Denise regarding the stencils. I do use Muddaritaville as well as Royal Designs and a nice way of making your pieces different is to mix and match. In other words, using the word “Paris” from one stencil and then pairing it up with some lettering or design from another stecil. That way, your designs stay fresh and different from what everybody else is using π Another thing I love to use is artwork from Etsy and then reversing it, printing it out and then applying to the furniture with transfer gel. My favourite go-to transfer gel is Fusion but Mod Podge works well too. Hope that helps a little π
Love this…great tips Carole!
I love seeing what’s happening across the borders. These pieces are inspiring. Which white is that on the highboy chest?
Thanks for sharing.
I’m not sure exactly what color they used on the highboy MJ… but I’ll see if I can get Carole or Sally to chime in for you! π
Hi MJ… I found out for you. They used ‘Cottage White’ in Cottage Paints (I believe it’s a clay/mineral based brand).
Denise, we are so flattered and honoured that you took time out of your day, as rainy and dreary as it was on Saturday, to bring a ray of sunshine to our Sale. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart for the lovely comments. You are truly a remarkably kind person and, if I say so myself, a true inspiration to all of us in this business. THANK YOU! PS: LOVE the pictures – great photography. You made our pieces look so special π
Carole & Sally
I was super flattered and honored with your warm welcome. I felt like a celebrity… Champagne before noon! I think I’ll come visit you sisters a little more often …lol!!! π I had a great time shooting your gorgeous pieces and chatting with you both!
