Fabric Stores are Eye Candy! Don’t you agree?
Endless bolts of bright energizing colours, tantalizing textures, and pop-out-at-you-patterns… I L-O-V-E shopping for fabric!
However, have you ever gone discount fabric shopping and walked out empty handed and frustrated?
This happens to me more times than I care to admit. When I shop for fabric “free-style”… a nice way of saying I have no frigg’n clue of what I want or need… I usually end up feeling overwhelmed and purchase nothing.
So… today I went to Fabricland searching for an upholstery fabric to cover a set of black dining room chairs.
Because I didn’t want to come across like an unruly kid in a candy shop, or leave the store in a frustrated state, I was on my best behaviour and made sure I armed myself with an “Upholstery Criteria List” before I left the house.
Upholstery Criteria List:
- A medium weight fabric
- Preferably all natural fibres
- A pattern, not a solid
- Must have some black to tie in with black chairs
- Cheap…or ehhemmm… excuse me…I should say inexpensive
I found some fabulous new arrivals selling for $24-$36/meter.
If this dining set was being refinished for my home, I would NOT have been able to resist these bold new graphics… but, this dining set is going to be sold. So I headed on over to the discount tables to ensure the upholstery cost doesn’t eat into my profits.
Look what I found at the bottom of the discount pile…
… this amazing classic gold and black paisley upholstery fabric on sale for $5/meter! Originally $24.99/meter… Wowzeeee!
I gave Darlene my chair measurements and she helped me calculate exactly how many meters was required.
[box type=”shadow”] Tip: 1 meter = 1.09361 yards[/box]
In my experience, Darlene and all the staff at Fabricland are always willing to help, ( I’m clueless when it comes to matching stripes, patterns, etc) but keep in mind they cannot assume responsibility for any errors that may occur.
When shopping for discount fabric, or any fabric for that matter, coming prepared and knowing your measurements is a must.
This fabric is going to look so good on the chairs… for under $20!
I’m always happy when I leave the fabric store with a beautiful discounted upholstery fabric. Quality fabric can be found for a fraction of the cost if you take the time to look through the discount tables and come prepared with your criteria list.
These “soon-to-be seat-covers” are going to look great with the black painted dining set. I’ll link to the finished set once it’s complete.
Also, thank you to Irene at Fabriclands Head Office for granting permission to use these photo’s from the Burlington Fabricland location. If you’re looking for great deals, they’re the best!
Enjoy your day!
