Many thanks to all of you who chimed in on the “What Would You Do” post for this Kroehler Dresser.I really appreciated the input because this piece was a little different than what I usually work on. The only thing I was certain of was I wanted to lighten it up. And with such strong lines, chippy or antiqued wasn’t the way to go.
I had to find another way to turn this brute into a beaut!
You all came up with some AMAZING ideas! So amazing – it had my brain running in 1000 different directions. I’m embarrassed to admit; I woke up at 4 a.m on a few nights obsessing about colors/finishes etc. I know… you’re probably rolling your eyes and thinking … “It’s just a dresser Denise … really?!”
Yes… REALLY! {cheeks turning red}
When a project wakes you up at 4 a.m three consecutive nights in a row, I’m not sure if that’s a true sign of a creative soul – or a sure sign of insanity.
Either way, this dresser looks magnificent!!!
This Kroehler Dresser has been painted in Sherwin Williams SW7006 Extra White.
I took your suggestions to heart. Gold was mentioned in a few of the comments so I went searching for gold accents and hardware.
I love these brushed gold knobs and coordinating handles. The knobs really help accentuate the curved top drawers.
Simple and elegant. She’s a classic. She’ll draw attention in ANY room!

I’d love to hear what you think so leave me a comment! I’m also curious if any of you have used gold or gold brushed hardware…and on what color?

Hi, what is the name of the knob from HOme Depot?! They are gorgeous!
Hi Alison! I’m not sure if you’re located in Canada, but here the knobs are at HomeDepot.ca … hope this helps. 🙂
I love this! What finish of paint did you use? I can’t tell if its matte or eggshell. Thanks! Leigh
Thanks Leigh! It is Sherwin Williams SW7006 Extra White in Eggshell.
The pulls are what caught my eye when I saw this picture pop up on my Pinterest page! And you got them from Home Depot??? Who would of thunk it? 🙂 Lovely transformation!
Hi Robin!!! yes, I was shocked I found them at Home Depot too! 🙂
Simply stunning! Great job in not over-doing and keeping it simple.
thank you Deborah! x
Hah. I think a lot of us wake up in the wee hours saying ‘eureka!’ It’s fabulous. I’m too lazy to re-drill holes for hardware…but this one has me thinking. Love how you changed the hardware on top drawer. Absolutely beautiful.
Glad I’m in good company with the waking up in the wee hours ‘syndrome’…lol. And as for the hardware, the first few times I changed up hardware holes it took me forever Mimi. I was super nervous about screwing up my fresh paint job/restyle. But like most things, after you do it a few times it becomes second nature. If you think a piece will REALLY benefit from a different hardware, I encourage you to give it a go! 🙂
Denise,
It’s beautiful. Great job.
Still a neubie. Maybe you can help me out with
a small bureau I am doing.
Diana
Thank you Diana and feel free to email! Do to volume, I’m not quite as quick as I use to be for getting back to everyone, but I’d be happy to take a look when I get the chance. 🙂
What a Beautiful master piece. Love the gold knobs and handles
Thanks Colleen!
Hi Denise:
I also am not a big fan of gold or brass – probably because I recall how it was used everywhere in the 80’s – and I was glad when it was finally replaced with brushed nickel.
I know gold and brass are once again “on trend” and I had yet to find any pictures where gold/brass caught my fancy – UNTIL I checked out your finished pictures of this dresser. I totalllly love how the gold plays off the white and makes it very modern.
Not sure if my following suggestion is possible but I wonder how the dresser would look if you could paint the feet in the same colour as the hardware? The feet have a really unique shape and perhaps if they were also painted gold this piece might be even more amazing.
BTW – I finally decided to follow your suggestions about using a paint sprayer and I was heading out to buy a spraying today so I can hopefully begin working outside over the weekend on my backlog of projects (I also live in southern Ontario and its suppose to be 17 C in our area this weekend). Just as I was about to go shopping my spouse asked me to look at a project he was working on in his workshop – except he surprised me with a paint sprayer he bought for my birthday present (my birthday is this Sunday). Apparently when I mentioned I was going to buy a paint sprayer he nearly blew a gasket.
Keep up the great work and I really enjoy your blog and following your adventures in painting and restoring furniture.
That’s all for now, Nancy
Awww, what a sweet man you have Nancy – and Happy Birthday! I hope you get to try out your new sprayer soon. The weather has been amazing this last week! Funny that you mentioned the gold feet because I did paint one of them in Martha Stewart’s Gold Metallic. I didn’t look good so all white it is. I think it was the color/tone of Martha’s Gold that just wasn’t right though. 🙂
Fantastic job! Perfect hardware for that piece! You are a star!
Thanks Lynette! And I’d say you’re the super star for the bathroom redo… AMAZING!
Gorgeous makeover. I think you made the right decision! Could you share what type of paint you used? Semi gloss, satin, enamel? And did you use a topcoat? It looks wonderful. A very pretty white.
Thanks Jackie! Sherwin Williams All Surface Enamel in Eggshell. SW7006 “Extra White” and it was top coated in TreWax and buffed to a soft sheen.
Absolutely gorgeous. Really shows off the simple, classic lines beautifully. I’m not usually into gold, but the hardware is perfect with the warm white.
Whenever someone starts with “I’m not usually into________” and then compliments a piece, it puts a big smile on my face. Thanks Linda. 🙂
Good choices! I like the gold accents. Only goes to show you don’t have to distress every piece, especially if the style doesn’t suit it.
So true Annie. My go-to style is vintage – to have some antiquing or distressing going on but I sometimes forget how fun it is to switch it up every now and then. 🙂
Absolutely stunning transformation! You did a fantastic job. I hope to become as good as you are at “salvaging” furniture 🙂
Thank you Maria <3
Wow!
Love the befor and after shots! Gold was an excellent choice.
I know about waking up thinking! I decided to use a wallpaper behind my old secretary desk I’m doing. 2500 samples later, and volia!
So glad you found the perfect wallpaper…and let’s call it “eccentric-creative-thinking”…lol
WOW…she is a beaut….the gold is the crowning touch.Great job!!!
Thanks so much Charlotte. x
She is beautiful! What a classic. Great job and good decision, hope you sleep well tonight!
lol…thanks Sally x
Clean, crisp. She really cleaned up!!!!!!
She really did! Thanks Mary x
I love it! This isn’t your normal look but you did it great, very chic.
Thanks Jenn! I like to shake things up every now and then. 😉
Ohhhh la la love love it
Thank you Janet x
Denise!!!!!!!! It’s gorgeous!!!! Very clean, crisp and elegant. Love the handles and knobs you chose. They work just perfectly.
Thanks Josie! I searched high and low for gold hardware for this piece. I ended up finding exactly what I wanted at Home Depot…the last place I looked!
I love the gold on white!!! What a beautiful look. Do you have any hints on how to make bright gold handles/knobs look brushed? Can it be done? I have some beautiful (but overly shiny) hardware that I’d love to look brushed. Thanks Denise.
Thanks Monique! To tone down those bright gold handles you could always give them a light sanding and spray paint with a Krylon in brushed gold…or similar spray paint. Also, I’ve heard Rub’n’Buff works amazing and I believe you can just rub it on! It comes in all types of finishes. 🙂
