The cold and flu season is in full swing so I hope you’re all taking good care of yourselves. My sister is sick. Two of my girlfriends are sick. M-M-M’s not feeling great. And the last few days this nasty germ has been toying with me too but I’m determined to win the battle. Cross your fingers for me because I don’t know about you, but I always feel like such a loser when I’m sick. You know the feeling? You’re lying there thinking about all the things you’d like to be doing but you don’t have the gumption to get off the couch to do them. Not fun. I’m going to keep taking my oil of oregano and try to get some extra sleep.
Anyway, I managed to finish up this sweet French Country Armoire and take a few pics for you.
This piece is ahhh-door-able!
I’m seeing this restyled hutch in a little girl’s room. Great storage for dolls, plush toys, blankets/clothes or maybe a secret diary along with some favorite books!
Fit for a princess because it stands only four and a half feet tall!
When I came across the ad on Kijiji (for all my friends south of the border – Kijiji is another version of Craigslist), I thought this was a large full sized armoire. M-M-M went to pick this piece up and I was surprised by it’s size when he pulled it out of the truck. I shouldn’t have been. The dimensions were listed in the ad. I was just so excited about buying it I didn’t even bother to look!
Note to self: read the ad… especially dimensions!
After a few repairs were made, I painted this shapely piece in Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint. I’ve used this gorgeous Shutter Gray color before.
My sister and I always have a debate on whether this color is more blue or gray. I say blue. She says gray. If you’ve ever used this color, or would like to chime in with your opinion, I’d love to hear what you think. You can be the tie breaker between us! {big smile}
Here’s a close up of the stencil I used to highlight the oval panels on the front. They’ve been sanded and slightly distressed to give an aged yet elegant French Country look.
Other areas are white glazed to bring out the curves and details.
And the drawers and the upper hutch are painted white for a crisp clean look.
Now on to the next salvaged piece. I have another shapely old dresser and mirror I’m itching to start. I’ll haul it in from my garage and share it with you tomorrow!
Have an amazing day and stay healthy my friends! 😉

Hi Denise-
I love, love, love this piece and want to try this with an armoire I just got for $25. Do you have videos of how you white glaze furniture? I am a beginner at this π
Hi Kelly! Thanks. π I haven’t created a diy video for glazing just yet but I do have some posts here and here. Hope this helps.
I love your pieces, for sure. AND this one is dah…ling. BUT–what a stunning collection of plates. I adore how you arranged them. Perfect styling!
Thanks, Megan! Whenever I’m in a flea market or antique store, I’m drawn to the vintage china and teacups. Both my sister and I have a collection. π
I see you got a lot of comments on this piece …I love it blue or gray???? But it is January now and to me it looks blueish!
Beautiful, as always. Thank you for sharing your gifts.
Showstopper! Sharing today on the Link Party and thanks so much for linking up!
Thanks so much Suzanne! Have a great weekend. x
What a gorgeous makeover and talk about attention to detail!
Thanks so much Marie… love your site btw!
DENISE, I just wanted to let you know that your gorgeous armoire was featured on tonight’s Friday Furniture Fix. ;o) http://www.patinaparadise.com/2015/11/fridays-furniture-fix-17.html
WOW… thank you Lucy! π
Denise! I loved your hutch the minute I saw it over The Curators Collection Link Party! I am a big fan of MMSMP and especially this color. By the way, I agree with you, I actually think its more blue then grey π
I love how detailed the hutch is, and how you distressed the edges to let the wood peek through. That is just perfect! Thanks for sharing;)
Blue right!!!? π Thanks so much for popping on over Tone…really appreciate you stopping by and chiming in! x
Denise! I absolutely adore this beautiful armoire! Your attention to detail is amazing! Well done! Thank you for sharing it last week at Making Broken Beautiful! I will be featuring it at this week’s party!
Smiles!
Terry
Thank you for sharing Terry!
What a showstopper! It’s just gorgeous! Thanks for sharing at Friday’s Furniture Fix/
Oh my goodness! I want this! Could you ship it to Alaska? π Such a gorgeous piece, and Shutter Grey is one of my favorites, I have to be careful to not paint everything in that color! I’d say it’s a blue-grey. π I love the stencil you did on it too. Such great inspiration, but seriously, I’ve been looking for an armoire for over a year now…that one is amazing!!!
Thanks Cheryl! And I’ll ship it only if I can come along too..lol. π My sister and I took an Alaskan Cruise a few years back. Absolutely stunning!!!
OMG it’s my all time favorite of yours so far – Love It!
Thanks Suzanne.. I’m going to share at your par’taaaaay!;)
Hi, this is gorgeous. I love the colour whatever it is! The size of the piece would be perfect for England, as our houses are mostly quite small. The glaze completes it, not sure where to get these from in England, but I’m going to have a look.
Thanks Tania – and yes, perfect for a smaller space!
Shutter grey(or gray) is my favorite miss mustard seed colors. Also love linen and grain sack. It turned out so great! And I love how you painted inside the drawers. Did you get much bleed through? I have a brown hutch that I’m dying to paint. Really great job, and pictures. I’ve found mostly things I paint with shutter grey lean towards the blue side π and I love it.
I’ve haven’t tried MMS Linen or Grain Sack yet but they look absolutely beautiful so I’d like to. And as for the drawers/inside, I used B.I.N Shellac Primer (my fav) so I wouldn’t have to worry about bleed through. Looks more blue to me too Mimi!
I KNEW that whatever you did with this piece it would turn out stunning, and it DID! Another Dee-lightful Masterpiece! It’s Blue/Grey – I agree with you π LOVE IT!!!!!!
Thanks so much Carole! Can’t wait for Andrea to read all these comments…lol. π
Absolutely beautiful Grey or Gray. It’s stunning. sk on elderberry
Thanks SK. <3
I have never used the product being far to lazy to ever mix paint myself – I am all about the plug n play or in this case pop (the lid) n paint type! Judging from the pictures some look blue others gray so it seems you have a Blu-ray color – a name not just for videos lol!
Blue-ray…too funny Kari. And yes, I think lighting makes a difference too.
That is beautiful! And Chez is right, shutter gray is a bluish gray, but I think on larger pieces it looks more blue. Question: Where did you get your beautiful stencil? I would love to put that on my bathroom wall!
Lia, I purchased this stencil at Hobby Lobby for $5! I really like it too!
Denise, it’s so adorable. It’s hard to believe it is only 4 ft. tall. I’ve used Shutter Grey in the past and I have to agree with you that it looks more gray than blue!
I’m thinking it looks more blue Mary… but my sister’s going to love you for this.:) And I was shocked with the size too but it’s a good lesson for me to really read the ad instead of just looking at the pictures..lol.
See, that’s what happens when I comment in between painting. Actually, what I meant to write is I also find it looks more blue than gray. Sorry sis!
LOL…the woman’s curse of multi-tasking Mary… I do it all the time… and end up buying furniture 1/2 the size I thought it was! π
Oh that question is easy it’s blue gray. It’s not purple gray its not brown grey nor green grey all of which are versions of Grey because gRay is usually just a color muted down with a blue or purple or green, with a little black and plenty of white (warm white, cool white.. lol) and you have Gray [grey]. Now shall we debate grey & gray ? π
It seriously looks gorgeous Denise. I pictured this in a soft grey or lilac with white details because it kind of needed to be elegant and a little bit foo foo.
So although I didn’t weigh in on the color suggestions, oddly that’s where I would have gone with it as well… Beautiful job !
Chez, I’m going to take your fab explanation as a point well made for MY side seeing as you wrote ‘blue gray’ not gray blue… or should I say grey….LOL! π I think gray with an ‘A’ is more the American spelling and grey with an ‘E’ more Canadian… so why I spell it gray who knows!? All kidding aside, I always love your input and thanks for the beautiful compliment. Have an amazing day. x
