I can’t say enough good things about General Finishes Gel Stains. I use their Gel Stains all the time and Java is my go-to-trendy-hot color. This gel stain is rich, super easy to wipe-on and wipe-off and leaves a gorgeous finish every time. Just a few tips – good ventilation is required when applying this stain because there is an odour. Also, a topcoat is required after application. If staining furniture has ever intimidated you, this is the perfect stain to start with because it’s so easy to work with.
Staining Pine with General Finishes Gel Stain
Hi Cheryl! That’s exactly what I do. 🙂 When I have damaged tops I sand it all down to get out all the gouges and scratches. Once the wood is all cleaned up and exposed, then I stain… just creates a better more professional finish imo. That said, if you have barely noticeable scratches (and are restyling in a rustic look) you may want to give it a light sanding and match up a stain.
