Happy Tuesday and thanks for dropping by!
You’ll probably agree, spending time cleaning a paint brush is NOT fun. This is why I was happy to find this little quick-tip in a back issue of The Family Handyman.
Simply run the paint brush under water BEFORE painting. This makes the clean-up of latex (water based) paints, primers and finishes a breeze…. and saves time!
Do you have any tips or tricks for easy paint brush clean up?
If you haven’t checked out The Family Handyman magazine or online version, it’s a great resource for DIY projects.
I’ll be back tomorrow to share another “fall-foliage” inspired chicken wire hutch and if you missed last weeks Q-T-T, you can catch it here.
Have a terrific Tuesday and Happy Painting!

Very helpful post!I am going to renovate my kitchen and I will paint the walls in green so thanks a lot for the advices! Regards!Burroughs Carpet Cleaners Ltd.
I use hair conditioner. It keeps the brush soft and makes clean up a breeze. I rinse well before using.
A few painters mentioned hair conditioner on my FB page! I’ve never tried this but what a great idea!
I clean mine with a grill brush ($1.00) and dish soap & water. Cleans up easy and quick every time!
Never thought of that but makes sense it would be a great cleaning tool because those grill brushes are heavy duty… great tip Lia!
Put the brushes in a jar of Murphy’s Oil Soap (read the label to get the correct MOS formula for brushes) and they stay supple and come clean easily. I use the Murphy’s then soap and water.
But wetting the brush first seems like a great idea. Just so long as I shake it out well so the water doesn’t thin the paint.
Totally makes sense! It reminds me of that tip to drench your hair BEFORE you jump in the pool, so there’s no space for the chlorinated water to soak into your hair shaft. I guess the same is true for paint brushes! 🙂
Thanks for sharing!
