Hi friends, so glad you’re here! What to do when you’re under the weather with a head cold that has latched on and feels like it’s taken up permanent residence? Aside from getting extra rest, sipping on hot lemon water and trying to ‘stay with it’ on social media, I’ve been playing with these new metallic paints!
They have JUST been added to the Dixie Belle Paint line and I’m excited to introduce them… and test them out for you. I have such a grueling job. 😉
These metallics are gorgeous! The first thing I did when I received this box of goodies was open each and every jar and create a swatch pallet.
When the light hits these metallics it’s magical. Check out all this glittery goodness and the gorgeous colors!
I can’t wait to try these metallic paints on some furniture but as a tester project, I started by restyling this $2.99 Vanity Tray that I picked up from a flea market years ago.
You’ve probably seen these vanity trays everywhere! There seems to be a twin or similar version in every thrift shop and garage sale I go to. They must have been very popular at one point.
Check out this before and after! What do you think?

$2.99 Vanity Tray Makeover::
This has got to be the easiest and fastest makeover ever. I started by removing the back of the tray and took out the mirror. Then gave it a good cleaning.
I decided to go with this Rozay to create a rose gold look.
I painted the front and back of the metal tray. It took two (2) coats to get good coverage. I also did a scratch test on the first coat and it adhered perfectly. It doesn’t budge.
Is there nothing a little paint can’t update! What do you think?
I’m still loving my Magnolia Home faux magnolia flowers. I ended up cutting the stems down and am getting so much more use out of them.
Okay, and don’t worry I didn’t forget. There was such a great response to last weeks Furniture Knob Giveaway. Thank you to each and every one of you who participated… you guys are a lot of fun!

Darn… I had one of these in a rectangle version, of my mothers… do you think I can find the darn thing? 😕
Looks Terrific!
… it’s probably hanging around somewhere Monica… these trays seem to pop up EVERYWHERE. LOL
Summer colds are the worst! My remedy advice is go to the 🏖 beach—- the ocean can cure anything! Love the metallics. I especially like the chest the mirror is on. Perfect match for a photo. Take care and I look forward to seeing your next makeover.
Hi Cecilia! I love your ocean remedy but the closest thing I have around here to an ocean is Lake Ontario… not the quite the same…lol. Anyway, I still have the runny nose but thankfully the congestion is feeling MUCH better.😊
Darn! Oh well. I’m sorry you are feeling under the weather. Get some R&R. Love the Metallics but i am not a fan on furniture. I don’t know why. Well, it looks like you have a project on your hands. Goodness. I have decided to start buying my hand tools. I can’t buy fixer uppers if i can’t fix them. Thank you for your blog. I do love everything you do. Get well soon.
Thanks for your well wishes, Cheryl. And how exciting for you. I still get excited when I buy myself a new tool! Hope you drop by on Thursday to see what I’m doing with these tables… they’re turning out pretty good if I may say so myself.😉
Denise, beautiful as usual!
Thanks so much Jackie! Hope you’re having a super day. xo
Hi Denise. What a pretty tray makeover! Looks like a pretty HomeSense find:). I’ve also seen these types of trays at my local Goodwill store but always priced higher than $2.99. You have a flair for finding deals. Now that I know how cute they can look I’m going to buy one next time I see one.
Thanks! I saw something similar to this in HomeSense too. Except it was round not oval! I guess they still make ones similar. 🙂
Love this new Dixie Belle product. So glad you used it on a metallic item instead of wood – very realistic. The result is beautiful!
Thanks for sharing, Denise.

Hi Cynthia! I like testing new products on smaller projects before I tackle large pieces of furniture. It’s my version of ‘build my confidence’ because then I get a feel for the product and how it reacts/performs. I have to say I’m pretty impressed with the adhesion and these colors, right!?!💕
You sure do see these aplenty on thrift store shelves and I think I have a few stashed in boxes somewhere. So pretty and feminine painted rose gold!
It’s the vintage tray that never goes away…LOL!
This I think I can do! The product is a little pricey so I’ may take on something a little larger. Perhaps a miror frame.
I just watched your decal transfer viideo.. Maybe I’ll combine the two!
Thank you, Denise. I love your blog!
You can SO do this Piper!! And I love your idea of combining the metallic and transfers…that would look gorgeous! x
Looks like you painted the glass…right???????
Hi MJ! I love how antiqued it looks so I left the mirror as is… just gave it a really good cleaning. 🙂
Lovely shade of pink – I love this idea. May I suggest a nice piece of fabric under the glass? Or maybe since it’s a mirror you can’t – either way, i’ve made over several vanity trays with gorgeous fabric under glass. So enjoy your work and look forward to seeing all your projects!
Thanks, Janet! And YES! If it was glass I would have loved to put some fabric under it but it’s an old antiqued mirror. I debated on painting it out too but then decided against it. 🙂
Beautiful!
Thanks Margaret!💜
Super cute! I just ordered the metallics and I CANNOT wait to get my hands all over them. 🙂
ooooh, I know you’re going to be doing something FABULOUS with them! I’ll be watching and waiting Do!😊
