A STEP BY STEP ON HOW TO CREATE A DIY FAUX MARBLE SIDE TABLE. THIS IS A STYLISH + EASY + INEXPENSIVE MAKEOVER AND THE PERFECT WAY TO HIDE IMPERFECTIONS ON OLD BEAT UP FURNITURE. [VIDEO]
Happy Tuesday SI family. Thanks for joining me today and I hope your week is off to a great start! Have you ever been out shopping – seen something you really liked – and said: “I can make that!”? There have been SO many times this has happened to me and usually, I get home and … you guessed it… I do absolutely nothing. Well, today I’m sharing how I took action and one-upped the inspiration piece I found at Homesense. ๐
Working with old furniture, I’ve come across a TON of stuck-on contact paper. I’ve removed it from the inside of drawers, dresser tops and even the front face of a few pieces. So, I have to admit I’m a little surprised I ADDED contact paper to today’s makeover.
But seeing how stunning this DIY Marble Table turned out, I have to admit, contact paper has its place.
It comes in trendy patterns and designs – I’m loving the marble-, it’s easy to wipe down and keep clean, some brands are strong enough to cover kitchen and bathroom counters, and it’s a simple way to hide existing imperfections or stains on your old beat-up furniture.
A perfect example is this stained and scratched Milk Painted table that’s been hanging around for years. Not so pretty right?
Now check this out… it doesn’t even look like the same table, does it?

DIY MARBLE TABLE::
I created a short video tutorial on how to apply this faux marble here.
1:: Start with a clean and lightly sanded piece.
2:: Paint the table Gold. I used this gold metallic here and sprayed it on with a paint sprayer.
3:: Once 100% dry, I added on the faux marble contact paper. [step by step video below]
I can’t tell you how happy I am with this makeover.
The dollar store contact paper was $1.25, the table was salvaged/free and I honestly don’t think I even used $4 worth of paint but I thought I’d be generous. Total $5 Makeover!
And of course, I had to test if this paper was easily wipeable and it is. The water just beads up so there should be no issues with sweaty beverages or spills.
And here’s my $99 Homesense inspiration piece.
I think I one-upped the gold Homesense version by adding the faux marble inset. What do you think? ๐
My DIY brain is already thinking of another dozen projects I can use this marble paper on!
ARE YOU A FAN OF MARBLE TABLE TOPS? HAVE YOU USED CONTACT PAPER ON ANY PROJECTS? FEEL FREE TO CHIME IN… I ALWAYS LOVE HEARING FROM YOU.
Thanks for reading. ๐
Wishing you a beautiful day filled with inspiration and Happy Painting friends!
Denise XO

Yours looks like a million bucks!! I can’t get over how adorable it is. ๐ <3
Thanks, Sarabella! ๐
I love this table makeover!! The contact paper faux marble top is brilliant!!
Hi Natalie!! Thanks so much and so nice to see you here. XOXO
Denise,
How simple you made this look & fun too! I love the gold look, itโs not too brassy…nice & rich actually.
Applying the Marble adhesive looks pretty easy. Once again you turned this table into a little jewel.
By the way, I enjoy listening to you speak, your Canadian accent is cute!
Enjoyed the video !
Canadian accent?…lol…I don’t have an accent, eh? ๐ I’m so glad you’re enjoying the videos Carli! XO
I love it! The table looks beautiful. I extol your virtues (and your web site) to the customers at the thrift store where I volunteer. They are always interested in ways to make old, discarded, and unloved pieces look great again. Margaret
Hi Margaret!! ๐ Thanks so much and I appreciate you sharing and inspiring the #siblog…. and volunteering. You’re amazing! x
A great looking makeover !!
Thanks so much, Harjith! ๐
Sooooo pretty! I love it!
Thanks Teri!!! ๐
To get a more realistic look with gold paint, always paint a layer of red first. (Use blue underneath silver.) I don’t know what the deal is with this, but it REALLY works — even though the red or blue paint doesn’t show! Something about the “vibrational energy” of the colors, or so I was told. It’s invisible, but it’s still there.
Use a Chinese red under the gold., rather than a red with any blue in it. A nice royal blue (true blue) under silver is best.
I love this Gloria… I’ll have to give it a try!
Lovely makeover! Love it!๐๐๐
Thanks, my friend! XOXO
Are you thinking of protecting the marble paper with some kind of topcoat?
Hi Yanina! No topcoat. It’s pretty durable and super easy to clean. Plus I’m keeping this one and it won’t be high traffic. ๐
Not fair! Your table was way more gorgeous than the Homesense table to start with!! Am so glad you gave your little table a new life!. I would really like to see you re-do the table with the glazes you used on that plastic frame. That frame was so gorgeous I would have no problem NOT telling anybody who loved it that it was plastic (I hate plastic stuff, my bad).
Would also like to see you create a table top that is maybe tortoise shell; I saw one onetime and didn’t really feel like I could do that, toooo hard but you could and you could show us all how to do it! Please, por favor!
My table was a little more shapely, I agree…lol. And thanks for all your good ideas. I’ve seen a few tortoiseshell makeovers that were stunning. Very elegant actually. I should hunt them down for some inspiration. ๐
Hi Denise. I agree with the other comments. Your darling table is even better than the HomeSense inspiration piece! Wow! You hit it out of the park. Great video too. Very helpful.
Thanks, Monique and glad you like the video! XOXO
I absolutely LOVE this gold marble table, Denise. You one-upped the HOmesense table 10 fold! ~ Nicki
Thanks so much, Nicki! ๐
Holy cow, little girlie….this is fabulous! I gotta get to the dollar store…..like ASAP…. ๐ XO
Hey Suz… thanks! ๐ I’m always shocked by what you can do with supplies from the dollar store!
Oh…. You have SOOOO outdone the inspiration piece! I can’t believe that contact paper looks so good!
Aw, thaaaanks! I surprised at how good this contact paper looks too! ๐
That looks amazing Denise!!!
Thanks so much Cynthia! xo
Beautiful – I Love this table!
Thanks Lori! xo
You definitely one-upped the Homesense version. Love this little table, Denise!
Thanks, my friend! XOXO
Hi Denise,
Almost every piece of furniture that you re-do, makes me want to re-do my whole house. I love the table and anything glittery, glitzy or gold gets an A+ from me. Good job.
Hugs,
Judy Reed
from PA.
I’ll take that A+… thank Judith! xo ๐
I have never been much of a fan of contact paper myself but I actually purchased some to use on a bar cart and was pleasantly surprised how well itโs coming out. I adore your table makeover!! Gold and marble go so well together. Had I known that the dollar store carried this I would not have made the purchase for the one I have because it wasnโt cheap…lol. Oh and honestly, I had never seen that brand of metallic paints before so I will. Have to give them a try!
Oh I didnโt realize that the moonshine metallics were a part of the Dixie belle paints line. I will definitely have to check that out!
They have some amazing metallic colors. Rozay, Steel Magnolias and Gold Digger are my favorites. ๐
Hi Shirley! I’ve never been much of a fan either. Like I mentioned, I’m usually the one peeling the stuff off…lol. But perfect for a bar cart, right!? That will make a real statement and the clean up is SUPER easy!
I LOVE this project! The marble paper was a great budget-friendly idea and pairs perfectly with the GOLD. Beautiful makeover as always. xo
Thanks my friend… and I’m all for budget-friendly. I really lucked out finding the marble paper from the dollar store. ๐
Yours is WAY better!
Yaaaaaay… hehe! Thanks, Kellee! XOXO
So cool, like the gold too. I have a table with real marble top & don’t know what to do with it, LOL.
Real marble…. fancy! Maybe a gold base will do the trick. ๐
