AN $80 RESTORE ENTRY HALL TABLE GETS A NEW PAINT FINISH! | YOUTUBE VIDEO
Hi, sweet creative friends! Before I get into this ReStore Entry Hall Table Makeover, a big thanks to ALL of you who chimed in on Facebook last week. I posted a pic of this table in the store because I was on the fence about whether to buy it for eighty dollars or not. Have you noticed that used furniture prices have gone up?
Here’s the $80 champ that I would have comfortable and happily spent $50 on. 😉
And here’s the new look. This table cleaned up really nice but the wood top gave me a hard time. More on this below. {eye roll}
And don’t you just love the extra WoodUBend detail! I’m loving it. It looks like it was original to the table!

ENTRY HALL TABLE MAKEOVER
PREP
I started by cleaning this piece with this White Lightning and then giving it an overall scuff sanding with #120 grit sandpaper. This table had a gorgeous sunburst inlaid top which I was originally going to stain but unfortunately, while trying to get out some dings and scratches, I sanded through the veneer in a few places. Uggghhh.
So, I decided on a white top and blue bottom using white wax to highlight WoodUBend details and these gorgeous legs. You just have to go with the flow with these mishaps. Plus it ended up being a perfect opportunity to test the new Silk All-In-One Mineral Paint’s stain-blocker which I’m sharing below.
WOODUBEND
Before priming or painting, I added these WoodUbend designs to the front and sides of the table. These appliques are SO fun to work with and are easy to customize. I used applique #2157 which was too large for the table so I warmed it up with my heat gun and cut it down to size with a utility knife.
Now I had the perfect applique for the table plus additional designs I can use on another project!
PRO TIP ~ Here’s a quick tip for applying these appliques. If you have a little glue that squeezes out of the side, wait until the glue is semi-dry and then use a toothpick to clean it up. If the glue is semi-dry, it comes off super easy! I have a full YouTube tutorial on How To Apply WoodUbend here.
PRIME
Because this table is a made-in-China manufactured piece with a factory finish, I used this adhesion primer which is recommended when painting Silk on a factory finish. I only applied it to the body of the table because the top was stripped down to a raw veneer and didn’t need an adhesion primer.
PAINT
I sprayed two coats of this new Silk All-In-One Mineral Paint in Harbor. Gorgeous color! You can check out the first time I sprayed and brushed Silk Paint on this TeaCart here!
Then to test the stain blocking properties with the built-in primer, I used Whitecap on the bare wood top.
Here’s the first coat of Silk Whitecap being rolled on. This paint and primer in one had its work cut out for it! There are knots to cover, a reddish wood veneer that is a known bleeder, and also a semi-sanded stained finish.
After leaving the first coat to dry for 4 hours, I applied the second coat which visibly cut down on the bleed through by a good 50%.
I let the two coats dry overnight and then I applied the third coat the following day. Leaving enough dry time between the coats is the key. It looks really good!
WAXING
Silk All-In-One Mineral Paint doesn’t require a top coat but to blend the crisp white top into the bottom I dry brushed the applique details and then white waxed the body. If you look at the pic below, to the left of the applique is the original Harbor color – to the right of the applique is white waxed. It makes for a beautiful finish, don’t you think?
It all came together beautifully and I’m so glad I picked it up… even for $80 bucks. 😉

I’m always game for a good furniture hunt and with used furniture prices increasing – GAME ON! Finding a great deal (or better yet free!) is all part of my fun and creative process. I hope you’re finding some great deals in your area. If not-so-great deals, at least pieces that are inspiring you!
I ALWAYS LOVE HEARING FROM YOU. 🙂
Happy furniture painting my friends!
Denise x
Oh my, it’s beyond beautiful!
Thank you, Barbara!π€
Sigh! Such talent, just gorgeous!
Aw, thanks my friend! Hugs XOXO
Love the blue and white! The WoodUBend really added a special touch. I just love to use white wax; it sure made this piece extra special! I know what you mean about the prices soaring! Even Goodwill is prouder of their stuff!!
I love the Woodubend with the white wax too! And yes, the Goodwill’s here are the same. I feel it’s still a ‘good choice’ to buy from them tho. β»οΈπ€ .. and game on. I’m on the hunt for the bargains hehe
It’s beautiful! Great work.
Thanks Lizzy. you always put a smile on my face! π
OMG ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS once again great work!
Awww, thanks so much Deanna! XOXO
I can’t think of enough words to say how great this looks! I think it is one of your best. I can’t wait for the video!
Yay! Thanks so much Beckie! I appreciated the kindness and will have the FULL video up for you this Saturday! π
Hi Denise…I’ve had a similar table with matching mirror in the garage. I painted the mirror but did nothing with the table. This gave me inspiration to do the table. It has a ‘marble’ top that is broken and glued together. The marble top is the hitch. Any suggestions on how to do the top? It is a straight on demi-lune top. Your table is beautiful. I’ve worked with silk paint too. The jury is still out on it.
Hi Fran! If the marble top is already broken, is there any way to remove it altogether? Maybe start fresh with the wood underneath? OR… they do sell marble repair kits here. I’ve never tried using them but supposedly they work great!
What an amazing job youβve done !
You find so many wonderful piece to work with. This one is one of my favorite.
Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us. Itβs inspiring π
Thanks Elaine, I’m so happy you love it! xo
Prices are crazy now but this is a gorgeous makeover! Shame about the veneer, but I also have a piece with damaged veneer so will definitely keep in mind how you handled this π
They are increasing, aren’t they!?π A good part of my fun is finding the great deals so I’ll just have to search a little harder hehe. π
That is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! I also love what you did with the [cane webbed] end table! (Btw, I found your page via Google search on how to paint caneπ)
I’m working on an entry way table, similar to this one as far as the style & shape, but with cane webbing on the bottom shelf, & 3 glass inserts on top. I agreed to do it – to help out a local charity- but now I’m worried I may be in over my head! Eeek! Do you have ANY helpful advice on how to make glass & cane webbing come together? I’m at a loss, and running out of time!
Anyway, I LOVE your work, so I subscribed to your email. I look forward to seeing more of your amazing furniture makeovers in the future!
Hi Lora and WELCOME! Your table ‘for charity’ sounds amazing. My idea(s) to bring it altogether would be to paint the body and cane in a modern neutral. The glass top will showcase the neutral underneath and I think that will look really sharp. OR neutral and black. Paint the cane webbing neutral. The body black. And have the reflection of the glass to modernize the piece. eg here https://www.pinterest.ca/pin/157203843233264632/ hope this helps and have fun! π
This is the most gorgeous table I have ever seen! It doesnβt hurt that this blue is one of my favorites!!π¦π₯³
I guess I will need to add Silk in this color to my stash!
Thanks Janice! I’m loving this blue as well! π
Oh, Denise, Your table is heavenly! It is perfect! It is difficult to picture the table without the emphasis on all of the beautiful details. Thank you for all of your hard work.
Thank you, Marian! I’m so glad you like it!π
take my breathe away gorgeous !!
Thank YOU!π€
I am a WoodUBend stockist and I absolutely LOVE this stuff! I have used some trim on birdhouses my hubby made for me and what a difference – glams them up instantly! Lots of applications for these amazing products. You got me hooked on them!
Donna
Champagne Shabby
Hi Donna! I’m hooked as well! It’s amazing what these can do for a plain piece or any type of project. I love the birdhouse idea! π
It’s a stunner Denise, love the color! The wood-u-bend is such a pretty touch..
Thanks, Marie! I’m kind of addicted to WoodUbend. It can make a such HUGE difference!π€
You gave this table an entirely new look and this Harbor color is magnificent! π Thanks for sharing! ~ Nicki
My pleasure Nicki and thank you! I’m loving this new color and Silk line as well! π
Another gorgeous makeover. Thanks again for sharing.
Thank you, Diane! x
Wow – what a difference! If ever there was a piece of furniture that needed paint it was that one – your finish brings out all the detail. And the appliques look amazing. But that color – it’s swoon-inducing. I’m not normally a blue person, but that is absolutely gorgeous! It makes me happy to look at it. :o)
“Swoon-inducing”… I LOVE this Marcia! I’m pretty smitten with this new color as well!
I absolutely love it. Beautiful color you have inspired me to go looking.
Thanks Sarah! π
This is absolutely beautiful! I love the color! Unfortunately, I would be in the hole on a piece like that. But I would definitely keep it for myself!
Thanks, Jan! π And I’m LOVING this new color too!
Girl!! You are the queen of refinishing. You make anything look beautiful. Great job!!
Awww, thannnnks! Thanks so much Cindy!π₯°
Love how this piece turned out! Amazing…..perfect as always!
Thanks so much, Teri!π€
This table turned out beautiful. I love it!
Thanks Victoria!
I noticed you linked to a skil sander a while back and a de Walt one this post. Do you have a preference? Also I wondered if Fresh Start primer from Benjamin Moore would work as well,as The Slik Stik ? In your experience?
Hi Sharon! I had an older version of this SKIL palm sander and loved it but I burnt the motor out. The DeWalt orbital sander is more of a workhorse but takes a little getting used to. When I first got it I didn’t use it all too often because I was getting swirl marks and it felt a little too aggressive. Now that I’ve figured it out… LOVE IT!
It is gorgeous, Denise! The added moulding really added something too. And yes, prices have gotten crazy high lately. This is still a deal at $80, but it is harder to make a profit. Beautiful as always! XOXO
Thanks! It makes searching for furniture deals a little more challenging but it’s all part of the fun tho, right?! π And ya, I LOVE these wood appliques. They can really change the look of a plain piece. π
I love this table!
Thanks so much Cynthia!
Beautiful!! Love the color!
Thanks, Janice! This new Harbor is GORGEOUS! I’ll definitely be using it on more projects!
Wow. What a difference !
The white wax added an incredible dimension. The shading is Stunning. π
(Disclaimer: I’m not a fan of wax – fear of the maintenance…? )
The added molds created a beautiful balance to all the details. Great choice !
Thanks for sharing. I so look forward to reading all your posts. You truly have an eye for Magic.
p
Thanks so much! And ya, I hear you about the wax. A bonus when using Dixie Belle Wax — if you want the wax look and shading but the durability of poly topcoat, you can always wax and THEN topcoat with one of their heavy-duty sealers. Unlike other waxes that always need to be applied last DB topcoats are interchangeable/compatible. π
this is absolutely stunning! love the embellishments!
Thanks, Gwen! XOXO
You are so talented! I am always amazed that these furniture transformations. Thank you for the inspiration and the willingness to share your how tos with us.
Aw, thank YOU, Barbara! Thanks so much. π
Hi Denise! Beautiful table!! I didn’t know there was a special stainblock for the Silk line. Why couldn’t you just use the BOSS?
Thanks so much, Cheryl! π The Silk All-In-One Mineral Paint has a built-in primer/stain blocker and built-in topcoat. I definitely could have used BOSS on the top before painting but I was curious to see how well this all-in-one paint performed on these tough stains. Being a thriftista….I don’t like using the extra product if it’s not needed.π
I’ve noticed the same thing here in U.S. regarding increase in pricing, particularly at my local Restore in Massachusetts.
Some of the pricing was ridiculous considering the state of disrepair. They had to stop donations because things were not selling.
Same here Elizabeth. Some of the prices I saw were pretty hefty as well. I can’t blame stores for trying to make up for lost business. Here in the GTA (Great Toronto Area) stores have been closed then reopened then closed again due to Covid. It must be hard for them to stay afloat especially if they rely on donations. I’ve even noticed on FBM furniture prices have increased as well. Supply and demand I suppose. π
Gorgeous! Love the color and the details of the table.
Thank you Colleen! π
Hi. I love learning about your techniques and your photos are very inspiring. I would like to see your methods applied to more contemporary pieces. The ornate, country and shabby chic looks lend themselves to the paints and colors that you feature but for some of us, it would be nice to see what could be done with plainer pieces to accent a more updated look. Thanks! Thanks !
Hi Mimi! I have some plainer pieces here, here and here for a few examples but you’re right, I don’t paint them as often. I gravitate to the vintage pieces. π
Pretty, pretty, pretty! You are always spot on with your furniture makeovers. π xo
Thanks, my friend! Hugs XOXO
Hi Denise. Love love love this little table. It’s a real gem and so gorgeous in blue (my favorite color by the way!). Definitely worth the $80. I have also noticed used furniture prices are on the rise. Guess people are becoming increasingly creative since the pandemic started.
Thanks, Monique! And good point! Maybe because people have been staying/working from home more they are doing more around their homes… including furniture revamps!
Your entry table is lovely! I painted mine and I’m happy with it, but the bleed through on the mirror above (after two coats of BIN 123) has me planning to redo both pieces.
Thanks so much Jane! I don’t know if you’re on IG but if so I’d LOVE to see. If you post there just hashtag me with #salvageinspirations π
Oh my goodness, this table is stunning! You did an amazing job with the appliques!
Thanks, Maryellen!! XOXO
