HOW TO USE WOODUBEND AND POSH CHALK PIGMENTS TO RESTYLE YOUR FURNITURE | YOUTUBE VIDEO COMING THIS SATURDAY!
Hi, my beautiful and creative friends! Did you shop any Black Friday and Cyber Monday Deals this past weekend? I’m super happy with my weekend ‘gift’… it’s a brand NEW Sony ZV -E10 Camera and Vlogger Kit… wooohoooo! I can’t wait to start creating more Youtube videos. I’m hoping it will make a big difference in quality and sound for you.
This is the 5th year this washstand is getting a winter holiday makeover and I can’t thank you enough for all the ideas in this last post. You’re a CREATIVE BUNCH! I had so much fun going through all your comments and I can’t wait to share what it looks like now.
Here’s the curb-shopped washstand I originally picked up over 5 years ago.
And here’s how I restyled it last Christmas. This is what I was covering up this year… and I learned covering up red and white striping is not easy. 😆
I promise this year’s look is WAAAAY different so I can’t wait to hear what you think!

WOODUBEND WINTER WASHSTAND
Here’s the step-by-step makeover of this Woodubend Washstand. I hope this makeover inspires you to give these bendable wood appliques a try!
PREP
To prepare for a new paint finish, no cleaning was required as it’s been covered up all year. I used my Bosch Sander to scuff sand the entire piece and then wiped off all the dust. At this stage, I was still reading and re-reading all your comments to figure out which direction to take this washstand so I primed with the BOSS Primer in GREY. Grey primer works fabulously under dark colors AND light colors. If you’re ever unsure if you’re painting light or dark, a grey primer is a good bet and will help you either way!
PAINT
Once the two coats of primer had dried, I painted two coats of this pure white Cotton Chalk Mineral Paint using my DB 2″ mini. I see a lot of you purchased the 2″ Wooster Angle Cut on Black Friday. It’s the economical version of this one and you’re going to loooove it…so congrats… it works amazing!
ADDING WOODUBEND
Now for the fun part! I decided to use these Woodubend Appliques because they reminded me of snowflakes!
I added the full applique into the middle of each front panel. For the harp section and drawers, I used my heat gun to warm up the Woodubend and then cut them into sections. These appliques are amazing! One design can turn into four… or more designs! I have a full Youtube Tutorial on How To Use Woodubend HERE.
Here’s how I divided up these Woodubend Medallions. I used a portion on the harp and then parts around salvaged knobs to embellish the old salvaged knobs I found.
Then I had two little pieces left which I could have saved for another project but I decided to use them under the top of this washstand. It’s Christmas after all… more is more, right!? It’s in the awkward growing stage phase but wait until you see what comes next! As you can see I used my iPhone to shoot this washstand video (coming this Saturday) so for my next video you can let me know if you see a difference with the Sony ZV-E10!
POSH CHALK PIGMENTS
After I painted another coat of white over all the Woodubend appliques, I decided (well many of YOU decided!) to add some metallics! I pulled out this Posh Chalk Pigment in Silver. Have you ever tried this product? It works like magic and I’ll explain why!
It comes in fine powder form. Very LITTLE is required so this little jar lasts forever. I poured a small amount of the silver onto a plastic lid and then added a tiny bit of this gloss topcoat. In this Saturday’s video, I’ll share how it beads up when the topcoat hits it. It looks like mercury beads… it’s absolutely gorgeous! And it’s a heavy-duty metallic. Perfect for refreshing your hardware, stenciling, striping, or in this case, painting metallic Woodubend snowflake look-a-likes.
You paint it on like any other paint. I used a small artist’s brush and in the pic below, you can see the amazing coverage on the first coat. The second coat makes it look like real silver!
And here’s the finished look!
Dreamy, right?
Gorgeous crisp winter white with shiny ‘ice’ detailing!
A big thank you to Robin, Susan, Kellee, Debrah, Cynthia, Deb, Karin, and Judy for suggesting white. And Missy, Christy, Rebecca, Dawn, and Nicki for suggesting metallics and silver!

I really loved the green…my favorite color….but this is just stunning!!!
I agree Margie! I think the green is still my favorite but this version looks lovely as well.
This is beautiful, I enjoy seeing what you do with this every year. I have to say though, the year you painted it evergreen was my favorite. What a fun tradition you’ve come up with, changing the same piece every year. I love your blog, please keep the creativity coming!
Thanks Kelly! The Evergreen version is still my favorite as well. I think I’ll keep doing this every year until I create a style I like better than the green one.🤣
Wow, this is my favorite one yet. It’s like a pristine fresh snow fall! Great job D!
Oh I’m sooo glad Tracy! It probably reminds you of your snowy Quebec winters, right? ❄️🌨😉
