Happy Tuesday #sifamily! Have you started your Christmas shopping and decorating? I haven’t started mine yet but I’m in the mood to start a new holiday tradition here on the #siblog. Last year, I never listed or sold this curb-shopped washstand, so when I saw it sitting in my inventory, I had an idea. How much fun would it be to see how many different Christmas looks can we give this cutie each year!
You may remember this sweet Buffalo Check Plaid makeover last year…
I went with the opposite traditional Christmas color, Dixie Belle Paint in “Evergreen” and here’s the new 2019 version…
Two totally different looks but equally Christmassy — don’t’ you think!?

Here’s a time-lapse video of the entire makeover:
You all know I’m no video guru (don’t laugh too hard!) but I tried something new. I created a time-lapse video of the entire process from start to finish. I’d love to get your feedback on this. I’m thinking maybe subtitles along the bottom of the screen explaining each step in addition to you watching. ?? Feel free to chime in and let me know what would be helpful to you.
If you have any issues viewing – you can check it out here on my Youtube Channel.

Two coats of Dixie Belle Paint in Evergreen
Using Gilding Wax to Highlight Details
I love the contrast of the dark stained wood and the Evergreen!
And the dark wax and gilding wax added the final touches.
So what’s your vote? A or B? Team green or team red?
Whichever one you prefer, I hope this Christmas makeover inspires some ideas for your upcycling projects. You guys always inspire me so thank YOU!
I LOVE TO HEAR YOUR QUESTIONS AND/OR TIPS. FEEL FREE TO CHIME IN… I ALWAYS LOVE HEARING FROM YOU. 🙂
Happy furniture painting my friends! 🙂

Gorgeous! Absolutely love the colour 💚
I enjoyed watching your video, it was fun watching a fellow furniture painter at work 😃
Thanks so much, Annie! And ya, I love seeing how others restyle their furniture too. Everyone has their own style and techniques. 🙂
Great post! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Thank you! 🙂
Of course, I would buy both!!! Love the video and watching you work. Even in the fast version, I picked up on a lot of good tips, both with paint and wax techniques. You are such a blessing to me!
The green is my vote. I can’t wait to use the mold I ordered! You get my imagination just soaring!!!!
Thanks Denise!
I can’t wait for you to use the mold you bought too!! I’m sure you’re going to LOVE it. They make such a difference! Also, thanks for your vote and your input on the vid. I’m glad even in the ‘speedyness’ of it you picked up on a few things. 🙂 Personally, I find it REALLY hard to watch long instructional videos. I just don’t have time and I’m guessing some of you don’t either. If I can make them brief yet informative – bonus! 🙂
Seeeeee, this is why I so rarely comment! It takes soooo long to get to the bottom my finger is sore and I always think I am going to run out of room! Plus, so so so so many great comments I can’t really add anything to the conversation! I am going to wait and vote next year!
Happy Holidays
This gave me a good giggle Mary… thank YOU! You ALL leave the BEST comments and imagine how MY fingers feel LOL!!! … I’m not complaining believe me. 😉 I’m holding you to your word… next year’s vote! 😉 Happy Holidays Mary!! XO
I love reading the comments! I agree with Liz about toning Down the gold and how lovely the wood and green are together. The Red is my favorite for our Hunting Lodge. Team B! Great video without explanation!
Hi Cecilia! I love reading all the comments too!!! 😉 Team B for you! XO
Can you tell me if you ever use tape while you’re painting? I always think my lines are straight, but they’re really not., then whenever I look at it that’s all I see. I vote green. Love your blog! Thank you for introducing me to Dixie Belle.
Hi Merry Lu! I used to use a lot of painters tape. To mask off drawers, mask off the inside, mask off change of color or strips etc, but I use tape less than I used to. I guess with experience (I’ve been doing this MANY years) comes more control over the brush and a more steady hand…. unless I’ve had one too many coffees! I’m all for painters tape if it makes you feel more comfortable though. Whatever works to get the results you like.:) Thanks for you vote and so happy you like Dixie Belle Paint. 🙂
Amazing video and piece~ Both are just gorgeous but the Green is my favorite with the dark stain! Merry Christmas!!
Thanks so much Savanna! Appreciated the video feedback too! 🙂
LOVE…LOVE…LOVE the green!!!!!
Thanks Kari!! X
Hi Denise! Ok, first of all i love the time-lapse video and yes, subtitles would help because i was wondering why you used the dark wax before the clear wax. I just love everything you paint. I have never purchased the evergreen before but i will now. with the dark wax it looks beautiful. I don’t think i can choose between the 2 because they are so different. Farmhouse or Glam? The stain color is perfect and the hardware is gorgeous! Did you spray paint them? Thank you for the video. It really does help.
Hi Cheryl! Okay, great. So maybe voice over or subtitles explaining a bit. 🙂 And yes, I did use the dark wax on its own in the recessed sides and front doors and then cleaned it up (erased any spillover) with the clear wax on the rest of the piece. Clear CAN be applied first which makes the dark wax easier to ‘erase’. I’m just SO comfortable using wax to contour I don’t bother anymore. Hope this helps and I REALLY appreciate the input Cheryl!! X
Both pieces are absolutely stunning, but I deviate to the red one. The video is a great idea and would love to see more of it happening, definitely agree a small caption with what you are doing on the bottom is a must.
Hi Maria! Okay thanks so much! I appreciate this a lot! Thank you! X
Ohhh, I love them both! The gorgeous gold embellishments on the green….the check on the red! But if I HAVE to choose, I’d say B. Gimme all the red for Christmas! 😉 xoxo
Thanks, Nancy and Happy Holidays to you!! xoxo
Love, love the green!
Thank you Tessa! 🙂
WOW to both versions! The Evergreen color with the brown top is stunning!! Wish I could find a little wash stand and copy that look!! Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks, Gail! I’m loving the dark stain with the Evergreen too! 🙂
Red most often catches my eye BUT not this time. Love the green. It looks classy !
Hi Shril! I agree! The red is a little more casual cozy and the green a little more glitzy with the brass and gold. Thanks for chiming in. I’m curious which one is going to get the most votes! 😉
Hi Denise. I’m having a difficult time choosing A or B because they are both beautiful. I love how different they look. I can’t wait until next year to see how you change this washstand up for the Christmas season! Brilliant idea. Btw….I LOVE your time-lapse video. So interesting to see a true artist and professional at work. Thank you for sharing:)
Aw, thanks Monique! You’re always so sweet and encouraging! I’m so glad you like the video and the 2 styles. And funny that you bring up next year because my mind is full of ideas already…lol.
Oh so pretty!! The red buffalo just speaks to me. Thank you for the inspiration!
Thanks so much Pam! Happy Holidays to you!
Both are gorgeous pieces, but I do prefer the Red piece a bit more ❤
Hi Mary Ann! A vote for red! Thank you! 🙂
oh my…I absolutely LOVE this piece!!! However, green is my favorite color, so I may be juuuust a bit biased 🙂 The pairing of the green color with the darker wood stain is just absolutely gorgeous though!!!
I really like the dark stain against this green too. I like it even more than I thought I would…lol. Thanks for chiming in Erin! x
Absolutely STUNNING Denise!!!
Thanks so much, Suzanne! I had fun! 🙂
The buffalo plaid is fun. It looks more casual sitting next to the green. While I also like a more earthy green this piece is gorgeous with the dark stain and gilded wax accents. It would be fun to decorate for Christmas with that piece. I vote for A.
The time lapse video gets my vote also. Also like the links you included below the video showing other pieces and techniques, such as for stain or waxing.
Your pieces are amazing and I always learn something. Thanks.
Oh, great feedback thank YOU!!! And thanks for chiming in on the 2 looks too. I’m super curious to see which one comes out ahead because they seem to be neck and neck right now!
Very hard choice as they are both GORGEOUS!! I have to go with Evergreen <3
Hi Natasha!! 🙂 Thanks … I’m loving that Evergreen!
I love red but I must say I love the green best for this. It is fantastic.
Thanks for the vote, Lori! xo
Green is definitely my fav. Love contrast of green against wood grain. Also like contour of frame with piece.
Clara for Evergreen! Thanks so much! 🙂
Love the green and I’m not a green lover.
Thanks Joan!!!:)
I love them both! And I really like the video showing all the steps! You knocked it out of the park – AGAIN! Hope your Christmas is Merry and Bright!
Thanks so much, Jackie and I’m SO glad you like the video! I hope your Holidays are Merry and Bright to my friend! x
Oh MY! Super duper pretty….I am such a green fanatic so just love how it turned out Denise! The video is great as well!
I LOVE green too and this Evergreen is magnificent! So glad you like the video Teri! 🙂
That green is Gorg!!!! Gah! LOVE IT!!!
I love this Evergreen too! Thanks, Megan!!
I really like the buffalo plaid. But, I love the stained wood accents !! So I vote A.
I do like greens – but guess I prefer a more neutral one – ie Hunter, or more mossy.
The brass accents add a chic look., bit I agree w a previous comment that a toned down shine
would be more elegant.
Altho – some bling is a good thing too !
I love your work. 😉 Thanks sooo much for sharing.
p
Another vote for the green! You might love this Spanish Moss color if you’re into earthy greens! Thanks for the vote. 🙂
I like them both but prefer the red.
Ashely for team red! Thanks Ashley. 🙂
I never use those colors, but either would be cute in a Christmas setting. Happy holidays!
Hi Lizzy! Thanks and Happy Holidays to you!! x
As much fun as the red was, I really like the green. Team A! 🙌🏻
Green vote for Larissa! Thanks my friend. XO
A-I love the green one.
Thanks Olivia! 🙂
I think they are both equally beautiful makeovers, Denise! Red is my favorite color and I adore that cozy buffalo check for the holidays so my vote is on team red. Merry Christmas to you my friend! xo
What a surpriiiiise…lol winky face! I knew this even before I read it. Thanks my friend! Hugs!!
Love that red!
Thanks Jo! x
A for Awesome! OMG! If you explained this I would have thought it would be garish and maybe a little yucky but I LOVE it! I love that green with the dark stain, It’s beautiful! The buffalo plaid is cute but I think several other DIYers would have done that, Your eye on this one is outstanding, Good job!
Team Green for Leslie! Thanks so much … I love the A for Awesome! 😉
They are both beautiful in different ways. Too hard to choose! I love your work.
Aw, thanks Nadine! They are both fun makeovers. x
Definitely “A” for me. I’m usually a red and I know Buffalo plaid is all the rave but that green look is to die for. LOVE IT!
Judi for the green! Thanks so much for chiming in! 🙂
I guess I must be a traditionalist… I choose team RED. Item B
Team Red it is! Thanks, Mikki! 🙂
Definitely B. The plaid is awesome!
I really like the plaid too!
Team A! Though red is my favorite color. You’re talented!
ahha, I would have thought red then! Thanks Lindsay! x
Hi Denise, I always enjoy whatever item you’re working in and I’ve learned a lot! On this piece, I vote for “A”, the green! But it was great watching you take it from the red to the green. The gold toned pulls and gold highlighted decorative items look lovely, but I might have done them without so much shine, just my personal thought, and made them a little tarnished or worn looking. But your work is always great! Love the time lapsed photography, but might change the music a bit.
Team Green for Liz! 😉 And toned down pulls would look amazing. I actually tried using the gilding wax on the cup handles to have everything an exact match but the wax just wiped right off and I wasn’t into sanding them. As for the video THANK YOU! Love this feedback!!! I used the music Youtube Studio provides (free for everyone) but I agree, I could do better…lol. I’m not really into paying for music but there must be more freebee choices out there that I’m not aware of yet. 🙂
Beautiful job and I love A.
Thanks Sue! x
i like the B washstand! the Red color and plaid are so cozy!
Plaid is cozy! Thank you!
I really liked the red…But being a green fan, I LOVE the green. I know you are thinking Christmas, but I see that all decked out with my Irish things like Belleek pottery, some lace or crocheted lines and an oxalis plant for St. Patrick’s day! Double holidays!
ahhhh….LOVE IT! With different styling, it would work for St. Patricks day for sure Patricia!
Oh my goodness, I can’t believe you painted over that beautiful red with the gorgeous buffalo plaid! I missed that one last year, somehow, and I must say it’s one of my favourites!
I don’t love the mouldings on the doors of the green version – the shape or size or something – though the green is definitely striking. But I do love most of your work. I only subscribe to two of these and you are one of them. I love seeing your posts arrive in my mailbox. Do you have a link to the buffalo plaid one? It wasn’t in your post.
Oh, and I love the time lapse video. I don’t know why you think youre not good at video. It was totally great! We women have to stop going for perfection!
Thank you for all if it, and Merry Christmas! 🌲🌲🌲
Hi Janina!! 🙂 Yes, and next year I’m going to paint over this green…lol. Here’s the direct link to last year’s Buffalo Plaid Makeover for you. And thanks for the input on the video. It’s probably two-fold why I say that. Firstly I don’t feel comfortable video’ing myself. And secondly, it takes me a while to edit them. But you’re absolutely right! There is no such thing as perfection so I’ll keep doing and learning. I appreciate the encouragement and a very Merry Christmas to you Janina. 🙂
Love that evergreen color…it’s summoning me towards Spring. I may have to paint a piece this color of green….cuz….well….it’s just too good. Love the new look.
Thanks my friend. And I didn’t think of the spring take… but I like it! XO
What a transformation! I love the green and the embellishments on the doors! You inspire me with your work. thank you so much!
Thank you so much Ginger! XO
They both look great, but I really love red,. Wouldn’t it be great to have both.
YES, then no need to choose! 🙂
I love them both but for my decor I’m team A. Happy Holidays to you Denise! ~ Nicki
Thanks and Happy Holidays to you too Nicki! XOXO
Perfect for Christmas !!!
Thanks Nancy!
I think A, it’s a close call though. Love your work. Merry Chrustnas from England!
I’m having a hard time choosing myself and THANKS, Anne! Merry Christmas!!! x
