A set of thrift store side tables get a vibrant makeover using Dixie Belle’s Yellowstone National Park Collection Paint **GIVEAWAY ALERT**| Youtube Video
Hi creative friends and welcome back. Today I’m sharing a set of vibrant thrift store side tables painted in a new-to-me Yellowstone paint. I had a few oopsies with this makeover. My original plan didn’t work but it stretched me out of my comfort zone which is always a good thing. I can’t wait to hear what you think of this restyled set!
I’m also joining five super-talented bloggers for a DIXIE BELLE GIVEAWAY FOR YOU!!! Be sure to read until the end of this post on how to enter and win a generous $200 Dixie Belle credit so you can try their products. Then visit my furniture painting friends for an opportunity to enter 5 more $200 giveaways!
A BIG thank you to Dixie Belle Paint Company for sponsoring today’s post!
Here’s the side table set I started with. I found it selling at my local thrift store. They were selling for $14.99 each – a little more than I wanted to pay. I posted a short video on Facebook and you all encouraged me to grab them.
I liked them even better when I brought them home.
The only thing I wasn’t happy with was a little chip on the corner of one of the glass tops. I didn’t notice it in the store so it may have happened when I loaded the glass into my FUV.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
$14.99 x 2 Thrifted Side Tables – SALVAGED
Shop Towels | Sanding Sponge
White Lightning Cleaner
2″ Flat Paint Brush
Yellowstone Silk All-In-One Paint
Latin Floral Transfer (on clearance as of writing this post!)
YELLOWSTONE SIDE TABLE MAKEOVER
Let’s turn these cute side tables into vibrant and fun beauties!…
CLEAN
To prep these tables for paint I removed the glass and put the two glass panels in a safe place. Then I removed the price tags with my heat gun. Using this White Lightning Cleaning I gave both tables a thorough cleaning.
HOW TO SCUFF SAND BY HAND
I had a comment on last week’s Youtube video from Jayne. She mentioned that she loved seeing hand sanding because not everyone has a sander or wants to invest in a new sander. I love getting comments/input like this so keep them coming!
It encouraged me to scuff sand these tables by hand. I used a sanding pad and wiped all the wood surfaces down using a similar action to wiping down my kitchen counters. Not much more pressure is needed than this. I go over each area until I see the finish on the furniture is scuffed up and slightly dusty. Then wipe all the dust off with a tack cloth and it’s ready for paint or primer.
PAINTING WITH YELLOWSTONE
Now for the fun part! I chose to paint these tables in Yellowstone Silk All In One Mineral Paint.
It’s part of the National Park Collection and check out these gorgeous colors!
I applied two coats using my two-inch flat brush
Below is what the first coat looked like. This is the scary-looking stage. Then I let them dry overnight.
I came back the next morning and applied the second coat. Now it’s starting to look gooood!
My original plan was to add cane webbing underneath the glass for a modern look. You may remember I used the cane mesh on this makeover here and was excited to use it again… BUT as I was cleaning the glass, I broke another corner off, ugggh. I ditched my original plan and opted for a transfer to ‘hide’ the two chipped edges.
HOW TO APPLY A TRANSFER TO GLASS
I used this Latin Floral Transfer as it’s bright and lively – perfect for hiding those corners! To apply the transfer to the glass, I gave the glass a good cleaning with Windex and wiped it down 100%. Then, I removed the transfer from the back sheet and placed it onto the glass. Using the rub-on tool provided, I rubbed the transfer onto the glass while pulling the top sheet off.

FINISHED YELLOWSTONE SIDE TABLES
Here’s the finished look.
And here’s a closer look at the Latin Floral transfer against the Yellowstone paint.
Because the glass is chipped in two corners, I won’t be selling these. But I’m still so happy I got to try this color along with the transfer on the glass!
What do you think? Which color would you try from the National Park Collection?

I love all the new colors, and this one is so cheery! The tables look great!
Denise says
Thank you Kim!!
Heather says
I love the Yellowstone color, I have used it for a porch table. It’s such a happy color
Denise says
I’ll bet it looks awesome on your porch! Thanks Heather!
Ann says
These tables are beautiful. Love the transfer on glass. Think my favorite color is Smoky Mountains
Denise says
Smoky Mountains is beautiful! Good luck Ann!
Fiona says
That golden yellow is gorgeous!
Denise says
Thanks Fiona! Good luck in the giveaway!
Olivia says
The transfer on glass looks great.
Denise says
Thanks Olivia, it was really fun and it sure did distract the eye from the chips!
Suzanne says
I love the Smoky Mountains color. I have a dresser I’d like to make over.
Denise says
Thanks for participating Suzanne and good luck!
Melissa Storms says
The colors in this collection is beautiful, I love the Sequoia Silk the most.
Denise says
They really are and Sequoia is gorgeous! Good luck to you!
Cara Hafer says
These are so cute! They would be great on a patio or balcony!! Did you put the transfer on the top or underside of the glass? If you used them outside, what would you use to seal the transfer?
Denise says
Thanks Cara and I agree, they would look amazing on a patio or balcony! The transfers are put on top of the glass but I did think of putting them on the underside. The thing is they aren’t as vibrant because you’re seeing the backside of the transfer showing through – not the top of the transfer… hope that makes sense. And no, I don’t suggest sealing a transfer when its on glass or mirror. I also wouldn’t use a transfer on a high traffic glass item it would need cleaning on a regular basis and eventually wear the transfer away.
Stacye says
I love the Yellowstone. Would love to see Sequoia.
Denise says
Thanks Stacye! Sequoia is gorgeous. Good luck!
Cheryl Hinckley says
Such a bold transformation! Love the silk line. I can’t wait to try it.
Denise says
Thanks Cheryl and the best of luck!
Cyndel says
I never know what to expect with your makeovers, which is one of the reasons I look forward to them so much and always enjoy them. My favorite of the new colors are Smoky Mountains and Acadia based on what I’ve seen so far. I’m not overly fond of yellow, but your tables are too cheery to not like. I imagine them on a covered patio or porch.
Denise says
This is a huge compliment Cyndel! I like keeping you guessing. The truth is I get bored of doing the same thing over and over again.😂 Smoky Mountains and Acadia are gorgeous and I hope you get to try them out. Good luck in the giveaway!
Jennifer says
Thank you for showing makeovers in colors I could never use! It always inspires me to step out of my comfort zone at least a little. Loved the transfer on glass!
Denise says
I’m glad you find it inspiring Jennifer, thank you! Good luck in the giveaway!
Shannon says
I’m new to your site and so glad I found it! Love all the pieces you’ve refinished. I’m super inspired. I have an old oak dresser that needs to be refinished and I’m eyeing Dixie Belle’s Everglades for it!
Denise says
Everglades is an AWESOME color choice! And a big WARM WELCOME to you Shannon. So happy you’re here!
Toni says
I’d love to try the smoky mountain color, but the tables turned out great!
Denise says
Thank you so much Toni, good luck!
Nicki says
I love giveaways, thank you for the opportunity. I am not brave enough to paint in yellow but these tables look amazing! The transfer really ties it together and I didn’t know you can use transfers on glass! 😲
Denise says
Thanks for participating in the giveaway and good luck Nicki! And ya, transfers on glass look amazing and are super fun!
Robin Fann says
Denise,
You inspire me with every piece. I have only been doing this for a short time. I am very reserved in my color choosing. You make me want to get out of my comfort zone and go for it! I have not tried transfers yet, so that will probably be my next endeavor.
Thank you for sharing your talent!
Denise says
Thanks for being here and participating Robin! I hope you get the chance to try some transfers! Best of luck!
Caye Cooper says
Hi Denise. What a great “save” you did with that glass boo-boo. Too bad it happened, but that’s life.
I’d love to try DB Mud in all the colors. There are several paint shades that I’m interested in also. I have several new items and they have dings and pivots and scratches.
Denise says
Hi Caye!! Ya it is too bad about the boo-boo but kinda of funny as well. It gave me the opportunity to go in a totally different direction and I had a ton of fun. This set makes me smile. Good luck to you!
Jaye Ryckman says
Love that transfer with the paint colour you chose.
Denise says
Thank you Jaye and good luck to you!
Shari Clines says
I would love to try the sequoia. I wouldn’t have chosen yellowstone but it came out so pretty and the transfer makes it pop! Thank you for your inspiration!!
Denise says
Sequoia is gorgeous. I used it on this trashed library table and love the way it turned out! So happy you like the makeover and good luck Shari!
Bette Hiltz says
Amazing transformation. Perfect for a porch.
Thanks to DBP for this giveaway.
Denise says
Yes, thanks Bette! Thanks for joining in on the DBP giveaway!!
Bette Hiltz says
I want to try the new Bonding Boss and more of the Terra paints. The new Silk colors are nice.
Denise says
You’re going to love the new Bonding Boss Bette! Good luck to you!
Sharon H says
That is a very bright yellow! I’m interested in those new Silk colors can’t decide which one I like the best. You won’t be selling them, but do they go in your personal home decor?
Denise says
It’s hard to decide which color I like best too, they are all beautiful. And sadly, no. They don’t go with my decor at all. I’m all whites and neautrals in my home but that’s okay. They were a super FUN project and I get to share with all of you!! Good luck Sharon!
Angee Cox says
Those are very lively colors! Gorgeous job! I can’t wait to try the Sequoia and the Smokey Mountain colors!
Denise says
Very lively, and thanks Angee! Good luck to you!
Honoré says
I’ve been threatening to attempt to paint the old honey oak vanity in my guest bathroom for I don’t know how long. LOL Some new Dixie Belle paint may be just what I need to tackle that job. Thank you for the giveaway opportunity and for all the inspiration you always provide!
Denise says
You’ve been ‘threatening to paint’ have you…😆, that’s super cute! Thank you for joining in and best of luck! That honey oak vanity in the guest room is cheering you on for a win as well. hehe
Robin Defenbaugh says
I love these! Thanks for sharing the process!
Denise says
Thanks Robin!
Monique says
Hi Denise. These tables are boho beautiful. I agree with some of the other comments and think they’d look spectacular in a sunroom or on a covered porch. Such a happy looking project.
Denise says
I agree! I wish I had a large sunny sunroom flooded with plants, flowers and sunlight. I’d so keep these in there! 😉
Margie Fondse says
Your projects are so unique!!
Denise says
Thanks Margie and good luck in the giveaway!
Donna says
I just love seeing all of your projects. I am inspired by them and encouraged to start my own projects.
Denise says
Thank you Donna and good luck to you!
Madie Thomas says
I love the color choice! It certainly revamped the end tables. I think you should put them in your shop with a “oops” comment on the tag.
Denise says
That’s a cute idea Madie but I’m okay with not selling these. I restyle so much furniture, an oopsie here and there goes with the territory, hehe. Good luck in the giveaway!
RuthAnn says
Beautiful. Love the colors in this collection.
Denise says
Me too! Thanks RuthAnn, good luck!
JE says
You could still sell them, maybe at a discounted price with a note pointing out the chipped glass. 🤷♀️
Denise says
I did think of that but I don’t feel comfortable – even discounted. If someone cut themselves I’d feel horrible. Kind of a bummer that they won’t be sold but it was a lesson in pivoting creatively which you can’t put a price tag on. It’s usually the projects that don’t turn out – that I learn the most. 🙂 Good luck in the giveaway JE!🤗
Christy James says
I’m so glad you tried this color as I really wanted to see it up close. I love it! And the transfer really added a fun touch!! Thank you for including me in this fun tour! XOXO
Denise says
Thanks! It took a very different direction than I originally planned but I think it turned out super fun as well! Thanks for joining in the giveaway tour! XOXO
Cat says
I love the mustard color. What a great way to disguise a chip in a glass table top!
Denise says
Thanks Cat! And ya, this transfer is so colorful and vibrant you’d never know the two corners were chipped! It was a lesson in creative flexibility! 😉
Donna Wilcoxson says
Hi, I’m not a fan of the paint color but you did a great job matching the transfer.
Denise says
Thanks so much Donna! I think the transfer is a great match as well!
Michelle says
These are absolutely beautiful! I am loving the new colors. I have the transfer you used and really like the look on glass. I’m curious though as to how you would clean the glass without ruining the transfer. Is there an easy way?
Denise says
Thanks Michelle! 🙂 I wouldn’t use a transfer on glass if it’s a high traffic item like a table top. (as I’m not selling these, I thought I’d just have some creative fun!) But if it’s a hanging decorative mirror or vase etc, transfers are amazing. To clean, I take either a damp soft cloth or shop towel with a little spray of glass cleaner on it and wipe gently. It cleans up really nicely!
Jane Clelland says
Love the new colors. Looks like great coverage.
Denise says
I use the DB Silk All-In-One Paint line on A LOT of my projects and all the colors have amazing coverage! Thanks Jane!
Jen says
I ADORE that color! The transfer makes it pop so much!!
Denise says
Yes! A pop of color and the transfer pops as well! Thanks Jen! XOXO
Mary DeVine says
I couldn’t picture how to use this color. Thanks for the ideas!
Denise says
Me neither Mary…lol. But I’m really happy I jumped in and gave it a try. I think if my orignal plan with the cane mesh had worked it would have been an entirely different vibe. That’s the amazing thing with paint, isn’t it?! So interesting the different feel one color can offer depending on how you use it and what you paint it with!
Cindy Rust says
Wow Denise! That’s a gorgeous pop of color! Loving the idea of a transfer on glass – I’m going to try that one day! Pinned 🥰
Denise says
Thanks my friend! And I’ve used transfers on glass and mirror before and it works really well. The only heads up I would give is you have to be gentle when cleaning it so it’s not best for a high traffic item. Thanks for the PIN!🤗
Donna Jacobs-Cancik says
Luv luv these tables. I will be visiting my goodwill on the hunt
These are so cute / need something for my patio plants too
Denise says
This table set would be awesome for patio plants. Someone on FB mentioned I should get rid of the glass and insert plants IN the tables like a plant holder. So creative!
J says
I really like the transfer colors with the Yellowstone paint on the tables 🙂
Denise says
Thank you J and good luck in the giveaway!
Rebecca Clark says
Love the bright colors on the tables!
Denise says
Thanks Rebecca and good luck to you!
diana says
Love the colors and what you did with the glass!
Denise says
Thanks Diana! And I’m happy I pivoted and got a chance to do something different with the glass as well!
Vickie Kaminsky says
Well done! Would look great on a porch or in a sunroom!
Denise says
YES, I totally agree! These would look awesome in a sunroom! Good luck to you Vickie!
Tracey A says
I have to say I am a little chicken to start my project. I have a gorgeous sunflower transfer to use and some Dixie Belle topcoat to seal it. I love the new colors and want to try the Sequoia and other products.
Denise says
Very normal feeling Tracey, I encourage you to use your beautiful products and create!!! Once you get started you’ll have SO MUCH FUN!😃 Even after all these years, if I’m starting a new technique or using say a new product, I feel apprehensive about starting and I fear I’m going to ruin it or it won’t turn out. But then I give myself ‘the talk’… it’s just paint. If I don’t like it, I can re-paint and create something totally different. Like the Wayne Gretzky quote goes “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” … I like that one. hehe 🤗
Teresa says
Those turned out really nice with the color Yellowstone and the transfer paper looks good too. Nice job , I like the vibrant colors .
Denise says
Super happy vibe, right?! Thanks so much Teresa!
Kellie says
I love the look of the silk paints. I want to try Acadia. I also want to try the Bonding Boss.
Denise says
I’ve used the Bonding Boss on 3 projects now and I LOVE IT. I hope you get the opportunity to try it as well. It does a phenomenal job and is so easy to use. And ya, I’m a HUGE fan of green and Acadia is stunning. Good luck Kellie!
Ginny says
I have so many projects I don’t even know where to start. Maybe a small piece of furniture like my end table would be perfect to try out one of DB new silk colors. I’m thinking Badlands would look great on my end table.
Denise says
Badlands is gorgeous and good luck Ginny! And I feel the same way when I look at my inventory of projects…lol. We just have to pick one!😂
Erin says
Great project to show off the new colors- I especially love the transfer on glass!
Denise says
The transfer really makes the color pop, I think! Thanks Erin! 🙂
Kathy says
I love all the National Park colors. My first choice to paint an old sewing machine table will be Smoky Mountains but I love your makeover using Yellowstone!!
Denise says
Smokey Mountains on a sewing machine table would look gorgeous! Good luck Kathy!!

Yellowstone is my favorite!
Denise says
Thanks Pam and good luck in the giveaway!

Kat Firzlaff says
gORGEOUS! i LOVE THE THINGS YOU’VE DONE. bEAUTIFUL AND IT LOOKS SO FUN
Denise says
Thank you Kat. Good luck to you!!
Brenda West says
I always find it so hard to paint a wood piece. Watching some of you paint items – I love how they turn out. Will have to give it a try one day. Will have to start with a thrifted piece as you do. Love your color choice and choice of transfer. The sequoia color really stands out for me.
Denise says
I love Sequoia as well! And I hope these ladies’ before and afters encourage you to give it a try! Good luck to you Brenda!
Karen says
I love the way these little tables finished up! That happy transfer really set off that Yellowstone paint color. All of the colors in this new paint line are beautiful, but I’m a fan of the Badlands!
Love seeing your projects come to life!
Denise says
Thanks so much Karen and good luck to you!! From everyones comments, I think Badlands is a crowd fave and I can see why – it’s gorgeous! They did a beautiful job with this #nationalparkcollection
