FURNITURE FIXER UPPER FAVORITES | OUR FAVS OF 2021 ROUNDUP
Hi, creative #sifamily! It’s Furniture Fixer Upper day and my FFU Crew and I have curated a very special holiday roundup! We’ve each picked one of our Favorite Furniture Fixer Upper Makeovers from each artist in our group. I’m curious and excited to see what pieces my friends will be featuring on their blog today!
It was so much fun to look back at all the furniture pieces this team has transformed. A grand total of forty-four (44) pieces of furniture were saved and repurposed between Jen, Christy, Kathy, and myself in 2021. That’s 44 pieces of furniture that may have otherwise ended up in our landfill! In my books, this makes my FFU Crew the queens of salvaging and inspiring! I’m always amazed at what these ladies create and I’m so honored to be part of this team for yet another year!
So let’s get this holiday party started…
(me) Denise at Salvaged Inspirations
I have an attachment to many of the pieces I work on. Choosing one favorite out of almost a dozen FFU makeovers was a little challenging. But one stood out. It was this well-built vintage dresser I found at the Restore. This makeover was also a *take-two* meaning I had painted it – it didn’t sell, so I repainted it. Sometimes it takes me more than one try but I think that’s what makes this piece even more special and interesting.

My favorite Furniture Fixer Upper Makeover of 2021 is this Floral Romance Dresser I created back in May of this year. This transfer was brand new to me and I matched up the colors with an ombre effect. Painting the dark purple to pristine white ombre wasn’t really in my comfort zone but I’m so glad I opted for the bold contrast.
I love this piece. It’s so soft and feminine yet has a real strength to it. I can’t wait to hear what you think! You can see the full step-by-step tutorial of this Floral Romance Dresser here.
And now for my favs from my FFU Crew. Just let me say, it wasn’t easy to pick just one! All of these ladies have been creating gorgeous pieces all year long so this was a really tough choice!
Kathy at Petticoat Junktion
Kathy is a master of restyling furniture on a dime! She often uses oops paint that she buys for a couple of dollars. She mixes her own colors. And is very capable of fixing broken-down furniture with power tools. This piece incorporated all of the above. And even included an alternative to a furniture transfer – a vinyl adhesive drawer liner… brilliant!
Here’s the before…
And here’s the after! She did such an amazing job with this old large piece. It’s bright and cheery and has some real character now!
Here’s a close-up of her distressing. You can see small amounts of green peeking through which tie in her floral design perfectly! You can check out her full step-by-step Tropical Flower Wardrobe Tutorial here.
Jen at Girl In The Garage
This was a tough one but ultimately I picked this Repurposed Sewing Machine for my favorite makeover from Jen. These machines and cabinets were made to last. So if you’ve ever had the pleasure of salvaging one of these, you know how much work they are to disassemble.
Here’s the before…
And here’s the gorgeous writing desk she turned it into! All the insides were taken out. A new top was made and then stained this gorgeous rich Espresso and the bottom was painted in Annie Sloan’s Country Grey. Stunning!
I love the way it all came together! You can see the full step-by-step tutorial for this Repurposed Sewing Machine here.
Christy at Confessions of A DIY’er
Christy’s makeovers are always feminine and gorgeous so this was another tough choice. I decided my number one pick was this dark beauty. It was a really dated-looking Ethan Allen buffet and hutch and she turned it into such a stunning updated showpiece.
Here’s the before…
And here’s the sleek and updated new look! I always love her styling as well, traditional and so feminine!
And the attention to detail is the icing on the cake. You can see the full step-by-step Farmhouse Hutch Makeover Tutorial here.
AND NOW FOR SOME FURNITURE FIXER-UPPER FUN!

2. GIRL IN THE GARAGE
3. PETTICOAT JUNKTION
4. SALVAGED INSPIRATIONS (HAPPY YOU’RE HERE!)
I hope you enjoyed this roundup as much as I enjoyed creating it and thanks for joining me today. We are all getting busy with holiday prep so it means a lot to have you here. 💙
As of tomorrow, I’m unplugging for some R&R over the holidays and will be back the first week of January with more salvaged makeovers, inspiring ideas, painting techniques, and DIY tips. I’m excited for what 2022 will bring and even more excited I get to share it all with YOU!
Thank you so much for all your support throughout this last year. These last couple of years haven’t been easy on any of us so you taking the time to drop in, see what I’m up to means the world to me. As I’ve said before (and I’ll probably say another 1000x) this wouldn’t be any fun without YOU!
A very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays… see you in 2022!
Happy furniture painting friends!
