Hi sweet friends! Today’s post is a little different. I’d really appreciate your help! For the last 4 years, every Christmas I restyle this curb-shopped washstand in different ways. I’m amazed at how this little piece of furniture looks SO DIFFERENT painted in different colors and techniques. I want to keep the tradition going but I’m drawing a blank. 😐 So what would YOU like me to do with this washstand this year?
I’m open to any and all of your ideas!
Here’s the curb-shopped washstand before.
I’ve also included a link to each tutorial along with the year it was restyled.
2018 – How To Paint Buffalo Plaid
2019 – DB Evergreen Washstand
2020 – How To Stencil Furniture
2021 – How To Paint Stripes on Furniture
So what’s 2022 going to look like?
I can’t wait to hear your suggestions! Color combos, painting techniques, appliques, transfers, or hardware ideas… anything goes! Maybe it’s a technique you’d like to learn how to do or maybe it’s a new technique I could try for the first time! I’m open to any and all ideas so I can’t wait to hear what you’ve got.😃
To all my #sifamily south of the border, I’M WISHING YOU A WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING!

Denise says
Happy Holidays Linda! Thank you!🤗

Denise says
I love that you’re here Linda! Thanks Linda!
Robin says
How about white or cream with natural wood? Maybe add a forest-type (woodand) transfer?
Denise says
Sounds beautiful Robin!😊
Susan McConnell says
Youre really good at doing those crisp line stripes. Do black and white stripes on the drawer and door, but on an angle. Dont use the top trim piece. Use black on the main top surface, and a nice white on the base. Whatever you do, it’s always a winner!!!
Denise says
Black and white – striking and elegant idea Susan! Thanks XOXO
Dawn Shelley says
I am with Liz….Csviar Black….with white transfers Giving it a lil French appearance with gilded touches of silver or gold n a pop of crystal or rhinestones in your hardware
The sky’s the limit
Denise says
Love this Dawn! And ya, the skys the limit…sometimes that’s what makes me blank out!😂
Missy says
It seems this years Christmas trend is muted earthy colors that are frosty, soft or some are mirrored or mercury glass with those earthy colors. I’m referring to the popular Arhaus ornaments and others like those.
So, I’m envisioning a raw wood or Au Natural finish on the top with the body having an earthy tone with a “frosty” look here and there maybe with a subtle raised stencil? I love the look of a rich mushroom gray with rose gold metallic color. That’s my vision though. Can’t wait to see yours come to life!
Denise says
This is an amazing vision, Missy! I love the burgundy and earthy Arhaus ornaments too! XOXO
Caye Cooper says
Hi Denise! Happy Thanksgiving from the US!
I LOVE all the pieces above, except maybe the top one with the buffalo red plaid. Love the plaid, but not so much that red.
However, you did ask if we had suggestions for things to try out and I guess I’d like to know more about using fabric decoupage, In your many completed pieces, I think you did something with fabric, but it would be fun to see that technique done again, and maybe even on wood with chalk paint. You’re soooo smart and clever I know you’d come up with something interesting–like the wash stand. (thought) could it be done with fabric around that top piece of the stand and then on the flat part of the stand as well? Maybe a dynamic print fabric and then using one of the fabric colors for the rest of the piece. I love it when you explore!
Denise says
Fabric decoupage! I haven’t done that in a while… it’s so much easier with paper😂… but wouldn’t it look great with some Christmas fabric! Happy Thanksgiving to you Caye. Enjoy your day! XOXO
Liz Shivel says
I’d love to see that caviar black on this piece. A bit of French transfer maybe? How about piano keys in the drawers or somewhere for a surprise. I enjoy all you create!
Denise says
Ohhhh yaaaa, piano keys omygoodness. NEVER would have thought of this!
Kellee Kroll says
I’m thinking a frosty wonderland. A pale blue with a detailed raised stencil. Perhaps some brushed white to highlight or even champagne mist.
Denise says
You’re so creative Kellee! Love this idea!
Nicki says
I never get tired of looking at the evergreen version so maybe do that again. JK What about gold? Or silver?
Denise says
I think the Dixie Belle Everygreen is my fave as well. hehe And I love the gold or silver idea! Very festive!
Kimberly Farrell says
How about a beautiful deep blue with marbled accents? Brushed nickel accessories….
Denise says
Deep blue with marbled accents… sounds regal and gorgeous! And I could use some practice with my marbling skills. I did this table a few years back and unfortunately, the pour didn’t turn out very smooth.
Christy James says
I vote for something metallic! Can’t wait to see what you come up with! XOXO
Denise says
Anything metallic is super festive… I like it! XOXO
Rebecca says
How about basic black with some glitzy hardware or metallic gilding wax for jewelry? Kinda New Year’s Eve sparkle and glamour. Idk, you are way more imaginative than I am!
Denise says
I think this is VERY imaginative! Very holiday GLAM… love it!
Debrah says
I’d go plain distressed white with glass knobs. Then any color Christmas decor would look amazing!!
Denise says
White is a classic, isn’t it?! And so true. Staging and styling it would be fun!
Michael Christie says
That is really a good video. The washstand in it’s original form was rather bland, but each of your re-incarbnations was splendid! I think I like the green one best, but I like them all.
(toungue-in-cheek) how about polka-dots for next time?
Denise says
The green one is my favorite as well! And polka-dots could look amazing! I have a polka-dot stencil that I haven’t even used yet!
Cynthia says
I like them all, but if your going for Christmas you could do holy stencil on the green or the red drawer with a white background.
Denise says
Very classic Christmas colors altogether. I like it Cynthia!!!

Denise says
ohhhhh, very Canadian… I like it!🇨🇦😃

Oh goodness! These washstands have my heart. My Grandma had one when I was a little girl. They bring back such good memories. I love this idea of asking others. All I can say is that whatever you chose, it will be gorgeous. I can’t wait to see the outcome of this makeover. Have a fantastic day, my friend. xo 😘 pinned
Denise says
These washstands are sweet, aren’t they?! Thanks for the PIN my friend and wishing you a fabulous day as well. XOXO
Deb says
Man, that red is hard to beat! How about a deep, deep forest green? Accent with vintage brass candlestick holders, not bright brass but that nice darker color that brass becomes as it ages. Sparkling ornaments in a bowl or vintage bells of varying size tied to twine and draped between mirror holder thingie? Wow , you are so much better at this than I am. Lol
I know whatever you choose, it will be awesome!
Denise says
Deb, I think YOU should come over, have a cup of cocoa with me and stage this yourself! This sounds AMAZING!😃
Deb says
How about white/whitewash with silver or crystal accents for a winter wonderland look?
Denise says
Winter wonderland vibe yesss! And this incorporates some silver metallics as well!
Karin says
Hey Denise! How about black undertone with a bit of red/yellow/blue etc . Crackle and old white on top? Distressed. Finished with a chippy old world look? Christmas theme Transfer on the door fronts. Love these old cupboards! I’d have a dozen if I could!
Denise says
I love them too, they are so sweet and nostalgic. The perfect little piece to keep up with the Christmas painting tradition. hehe Crackle and Christmas Transfer!… I def have the crackle medium but I’m not sure if I have a Christmas Transfer… now you made me curious. I’m going to have to check!
Judy says
I want to learn how to blend chalk paint, specifically blues to white for a coastal look. I have a bureau I painted, tried to blend, failed. Want to try again. Inspire me with your 2022 wash stand.
Denise says
Blending, I like it! Always a gorgeous look. And don’t give up Judy. Blending took me a good few tries as well!
Monique says
Hi Denise. What fun! I LOVE giving my opinion. Teehee. What about a soft pink with gold leaf details? I remember you restyled a large pink tall boy years ago and it was stunning, so I’m thinking that shade. Hope this helps.
Denise says
Hi Monique! Pink with gold always looks amazing, doesn’t it?! And it looks like gold or any type of metallic is up there as well. Super helpful, thanks!
