Hi beautiful creative friends, welcome back. If you’re new here, a BIG WARM WELCOME to you! Today I’m sharing a roundup on one of my top sellers – nightstands! I’ve also used a few of these in my own home because hey, we all need a good solid night table beside our bed, right?! Here are 12 Trash To Treasure Nightstand Makeovers sharing how EASY it is to update your old unwanted furniture. If you’d like to see what these pieces looked like in their “BEFORE” state or if you’d like the step-by-step tutorial, I’ve included the link to the original posts in the titles and descriptions below. Enjoy the roundup. I hope it inspired you to try one of these painting techniques!
ANTEBELLUM BLUE NIGHTSTANDS
These dated thrift store nightstands were painted in this gorgeous Antebellum Blue. No fancy paint techniques were used other than thinning the paint with a little water to give this set a smooth and flawless professional finish. By adding an updated paint color and some new hardware, it’s easy to transform a dated piece of furniture into something fresh! You can see the full tutorial here.
REPURPOSED DESK TO NIGHTSTANDS
Transforming an old dated desk into two updated nightstands is an AMAZING way to repurpose your old furniture! I had a lot of fun cutting the base with a jigsaw, and adding Woodubend to create interest on the top drawer to give this nightstand set a clean updated look! To see what this desk looked like before, here’s the full tutorial!
DIY BOHO NIGHTSTANDS
This thrift store $12 nightstand set got a NEW updated look by cutting off the dated scallop edge bottom. Then I used soft neutrals and stain to create a chic boho look. For the full how-to tutorial and to see what this set looked like before, see it here!
CHRISTMAS PAINTED NIGHTSTANDS
Here’s another old wood desk that was turned into a pair of nightstands. I painted these with a Christmas theme in mind. This beautiful soft rosy pink with a touch of gold looks gorgeous when the light hits it just right and adds a touch of golden shimmer. Check out the full before and after here!
BLACK WASH PAINTED NIGHTSTANDS
This paint wash finish couldn’t be easier and it gave these nightstands such a dramatic sophisticated look! This post has over 126K PINS and it shows how EASY it is to update your furniture. Here’s how to create a simple and quick black-wash finish while leaving some original stain peeking through. Full tutorial and before here.
PAINTED AND STAINED NIGHTSTANDS
If you are not sure what to do with an old dated desk, I hope this gorgeous set inspired you to upcycle and repurpose! This set got a simple paint and stain update. I added a small DIY decal to the bottom and changed out the hardware. I loved this set so much that I used them in my bedroom for a while before I decided to sell this set. For the full before and after, see it here!
ANTIQUED NIGHTSTAND SET
Experience the beauty of under the sea with this fantastic nightstand makeover! This was a beautiful vintage vanity in its original state but unfortunately not in good shape. I repurposed the sides of the vanity into two antiqued glazed nightstands and the middle was upcycled into this jewelry box. Full makeover including the ‘vanity’ before here!
ADDING FEET TO FURNITURE
Here’s how to easily update a nightstand set by swapping out the feet! Update the overall character of your old furniture by adding metal feet! Adding feet or legs to an old piece of furniture can totally transform a piece. These 80’s Thrift Store Side Tables went from old and tired to sleek and elegant! These are the nightstands I’m using in my bedroom! I hope you love this before and after as much as I do! Check out the before and after here!
DECOUPAGED NIGHTSTAND SET
Restyled Thrift Nightstands with stunning Decoupage Decor Paper and Paint! I’m sharing this $15 nightstand set that has been given a facelift with some French Floral decoupage paper. These gorgeous decoupage decor tissue papers seal and adhere with poly topcoats. This before and after has been pinned more than 148K times and you can see the full decoupage tutorial here!
STENCIL TEXTURED NIGHTSTANDS
These dark and heavy Restore nightstands lightened into Fabulous Neutral and Feminine by using paint and stencil texture! From the first time I applied a textured stencil, it became a go-to technique for many of my projects. Applying a raised stencil can be intimidating though, right?! The first dresser I ever textured back in 2015, and I’ve used this technique ever since! Here’s the full tutorial on How To Apply Stencil Texture To Your Furniture!
PAINTED NIGHTSTANDS W RAISED STENCIL
Add new character and depth to your nightstands with a raised stencil! This raised stencil technique works really well on plain flat furniture faces and there are so many inexpensive products on the market to create this look. To see the full before and after, check it out here!
FLORAL DECOUPAGED NIGHTSTANDS
This curb-shopped nightstand set got a gorgeous floral makeover using this Apricot Chalk Mineral Paint and an inexpensive decoupage floral design. Decoupaging is easy to do and a really cheap alternative to using furniture transfers… and there are SO MANY gorgeous designs. See the before and the full decoupage makeover here.
I really hope you enjoyed this night table roundup and it has sparked some ideas and given you some inspiration for your nightstand makeovers! Every one of these nightstand makeovers is stunning! You are so talented, Denise, and do such beautiful work! I always look forward to your furniture makeover posts and your YouTube tutorials too.
This means so much coming from you Marie! Thanks so much. Hugs my friend. XOXO
That was fun – to scroll through the night stand roundup. Like many others my favorite is the black wash set. I loved it the first time I saw the makeover post and still love it. But I have a second favorite and that is the boho nightstand. Such a pretty makeover and even more beautiful without the scalloped edge.
So glad you enjoyed the scroll through Joanne, thank you! And it’s amazing what a difference/updated look removing the scalloped bottom makes, right!?
Such a timely inspiration! I’ve been looking at my nightstands for a year now and decided that I will try your gorgeous coffee bean black wash technique. I’m curious— did you apply the black wax to the entire stand or just to the detailed areas?
I’m so happy it’s inspired you to restyle your nightstands Rebecca! You’re going to LOVE them once they have a new look, I’m sure! Hmmm, I believe I applied black wax to the entire stand but you might want to go double-check the actual post in the link provided. It’s been a while since I did them and my memory isn’t kicking in lol
Denise there really isn’t any nightstsnd sets that are not intriquing n quite fantastic!
I personally am enthralled with the Christmas pair n the other ornate two-toned pair with the glazing.
I know I am sure going to give my desk a whole new look! Its true flat surfaces collect “stuff”….so my desk is going to fast become two nightstands!
Thx for the Inspiration! Dawn
Thanks, Dawn, and I LOVE upcycling old desks into nightstands. The first one I did I was super intimidated but no need. They are pretty easy to disassemble and patch up!
I love the black wash. Antebellum blue is one of my favorite Dixie belle colors. The apricot decoupage is very pretty and perfect for spring.
I love the black wash as well and yes, the Apricot would look perfect in a warmer climate or warmer season/decor for sure!
Hi Denise. I certainly cannot pick a favorite from this beautiful collection of makeovers. I definitely agree with Michael’s comment…you have a good eye for color. I’m always impressed with EVERYTHING you do.
Aw, thanks so much, Monique! I appreciate it… and I appreciate YOU! XOXO
They are all beautiful Denise! You are so talented and have a great eye for color and design. The chunky cream color set with the raised stencil would look amazing in my decor!
Thanks Nicki, and I like that one too!🤗
They’re all lovely but the apricot floral decoupage fills my Joy Meter right up! How HAPPY is that?! How could you wake up in a bad mood with something so gorgeous next to your bed? Love it 😍
Aw, thanks Tammy, and right!? I totally agree, it makes me smile as well!
The black wash is my favorite. It is a beautiful piece of furniture to start with, and the way you washed it made it “pop”. I also like the way you made nightstands out of vanities, I need some nightstands, and I have an old vanity in my basement. Hmmm,,,
There were many great inspirations on this page. You have a good eye for color. There have been several projects where at the beginning, I said “NO! NO! Don’t do it! That piece is too beautiful!” but every time when you were finished, I was amazed.
I found a Dixie Bell vendor here in my town, and I am very glad for that. Thank you for introducing this paint to me.
I believe the black wash is many people’s favorite… me included… but that might be because it was so darn easy to do! LOL And so happy you have a DB vendor in your area. I’m sure they carry everything you would need for your makeovers! 🙂
So many beautiful and unique nightstands. My personal favorite is a tie. I love the rosy pink and the apricot decoupage ones. They are all fabulous done. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks, Rebecca! Very feminine and colorful… I love those two as well!😃
