TODAY I’M SHARING HOW TO TURN AN OLD DESK INTO PAINTED NIGHTSTANDS! [VIDEO]
Last week I had a ton of fun with you! We tallied up the votes on the #siblog and social media and the Christmas Washstand that had the most votes is…, you’ll have to wait till the end of this post to find out. I have to build a little suspense, right? 😉
This week I’m sharing another time-lapse video so you can see the step by step start to finish – Old Desk into Painted Nightstands.
Changing a desk into nightstands takes some work. There are a good few steps required even before you start to paint — but this also comes with a huge sense of accomplishment. I have to say I enjoyed every minute!
Here’s the before and after. I found this cutie on Facebook Market Place. Solid wood and good bones.
I’m in holiday mode so I added a touch of gold shimmer. It looks amazing when the light hits it just right.

HERE’S A TIME-LAPSE VIDEO OF THE ENTIRE MAKEOVER:
There are some text/titles included as a few of you suggested. Feel free to let me know if you find it helpful.
If you have any issues viewing – you can check it out here on my Youtube Channel.
For you creatives out there, if you want to treat yourself to an early Christmas gift I have the perfect one for you!
A few of you have asked what type of seat I was rolling around on in my video. MMM bought me this shop stool and I’ll be totally honest, I didn’t think I’d use it. My exact words to him were, “What do I need that for?”
Fast forward — I couldn’t live without my shop stool now!
It’s super convenient and comfy. My knees, back, and tush thank me every day. Not to mention it’s just a lot of fun rolling around my paint room. 🙂
Here are some Links to techniques I used for this makeover:

Two coats of Tea Rose Chalk Mineral Paint
Using Gilding Wax to Highlight Details
Do you notice anything different about the appliques? I glued them on so the bottom of the applique slightly overhangs on the bottom. This way it becomes part of the silhouette of the nightstands.
Even though it took a little work, I’m really happy with this transformation. From my experience, desks don’t sell as fast as say, dressers or nightstands. I’m not sure why but I’m guessing it’s more comfy to sit on a couch with your laptop. hehe
And before we go, here are the votes for last week’s Christmas Washstand Makeover Take 2…
Facebook – Red 6 vs Green 8
Instagram – Red 3 vs Green 14
#siblog – Red 9 vs Green 22
Team Green takes the win!
I can’t wait to do this again next year. You all made this super fun!
And talk about fun, I’ll be back tomorrow with my Furniture Fixer Upper Crew with a holiday special. Hope to see you then!
LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK OF THIS DESK TURNED NIGHT STANDS … OR FEEL FREE TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE… I ALWAYS LOVE HEARING FROM YOU.

Simply GORGEOUS. Awesome job.
Thanks Rebecca! XOXO
Always so great to learn from you, Denise! Thank you for sharing your gift with the world! Great video and amazing results!
Thanks so much, Dakota! ๐
What a clever idea!!
It turned out beautifully!!! Love the colour as well
Thanks so much, Rosie! ๐
Wow, looking at the pieces side by side (before the second side was waxed) you can really see how the brown and gold waxes add depth. Very nice.
Big difference, right?! Thanks Kelley! ๐
Denise your work is amazing and I appreciate your comments and the time to take to be so nice! I love this chest makeover. What is the name of the transfer (beautiful). Also, different subject: what paint sprayer do you use & do you need a compressor to run it. Blessings, Margie~
Hi Margie and thanks so much for YOUR kindness! If you’re referring to this chest makeover, the transfer is this Lush Floral Furniture Transfer and I use this Husky Paint Gun. It does require a compressor. Have a super weekend. ๐
Awesome video! Learned a lot from this. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching. ๐
Gorgeous !!!!!!
As usual. You hit the bell again . Congratulations !!!
Iโm stunned with your ideas and videos. Many thanks for sharing !!!!
Merry Christmas from Spain !!
Thanks so much and Merry Christmas to you Piluca!
These are gorgeous Denise! Love the hint of metallic! I don’t know I’d be as ambitious as you to take an entire desk apart. ~Nicki
Hi Nicki! Taking apart a desk is some work but it’s also a lot of fun! Thanks so much and Happy Holidays to you! x
It must be a demographic thing, Denise because out west, desks sell like hotcakes along with dressers. I love how you turned this desk into nightstands. Such a pretty makeover too – love the color and finish. I bet they sell right away. The narrow width is perfect for small spaces. Pinned
Thanks!! And you might be right! I find around September they sell well but not as quickly the rest of the year. ๐
Hi! Great job! In some of the video we could see glimpses of a pink mask, Do you wear an aspirator or is it just a mask for the dust for sanding?
Thanks Leslie! Yes! I always wear some sort of dust mask for sanding because if I don’t my lungs feel super heavy. The one I’m wearing in the video is my old spray painting respirator mask. ๐
Respirator! Thanks! I called it an aspirator–LOL! It’s a good idea.
I knew what you meant…lol
Hi Denise. You are brilliant to turn an old desk into night tables. They turned out so pretty in pink. Love how you added dimension with the applique on the bottom and the dark wax and gold. I especially LOVED the video you included. The description titles are very helpful as to exactly what you are doing and why. Thank you for showing us readers talent in action.
Hi, my friend! So happy you liked the video with the added text. Thanks for watching. ๐ Have a beautiful day. XOXO
Another quick Q for you ~
I looked at the Redesign moulds and could not find the one you used for this restyle! Does it have a name? Thanks, Denise OX
It’s this Portico Scroll II Mold. I’ve already gotten a ton of use out of mine. Love it! ๐
Denise -those legs! I love how it turned out! I will say that, for myself, I think iI would change the order of your process! but that’s easy enough to do! Happy Holidays!
Who doesn’t love curvy legs…lol. And yes. Everyone’s process is different and the best way is always the way that makes YOU feel comfortable! Thanks for watching Gwen! x
Brilliant. Awesome, Gorgeous. (That about sums it up IMHO!) Denise, youโre the bomb!!!
Awwww, thanks, Suzy! Happy Holidays to you! ๐
Wow Denise!
I wanna become like you when I grow up ! ๐
All your posts are brilliant !
