Hoping i can do this to a few misc. pieces I have to declutter the randon wood tones.
I’m hoping for tan/brown wash effect – just a touch lighter than your chocolate. I know your detailed tutorials will help a lot.
A question: I also have a solid cedar large box/trunk. Was my dads WWII foot locker. Very simple/primative. Probably mase by soldiers. I’d love to make it a bit less orange – (more tan), but I’ve not seen anyone do it with cedar. Any direction or guidance for a paint mix that my work ?
I think a tan/brown wash effect will look awesome, and the wash technique is so forgiving, which is a bonus. And how exciting about your dad’s footlocker! Cedar is a little tricky because of its underlying red/amber tannins, but it can be done! So I would try neutralizing with a whitewash mixed with a touch of green OR blue to tone down the red… then apply the tan wash. And if it were my piece, I would test this on the bottom before tackling the full piece because there’s so much meaning/history there.💙🤗
